Alberta and lovin' it.
I am now the proud owner of a L61R Sako Finnbear Deluxe in 25-06. It's right handed but so beautiful a lefty like me would still shoot it! I have no 25-06 experience so I need some wisdom laid on me. I will be getting dies to handload it so what's a good all around load?

I did some reading and a 100gr Barnes Triple-shok zipping along looked good to me. Let's see what you have to say, and thanks in advance. ;)
 
I load 57grs H4831sc behind the 100gr TSX in my friends Wby MkV Ultralight 25-06. Chrony'd @ 3280 fps and it's proven to be a dependable killer on deer, sheep, caribou, even elk and moose at moderate distances. We use the hollowpoint version, but only because we've been using this load since 2006 when the TTSX wasn't around. Now I'd probably go with the tipped version since they look cool
 
Todd cool is a big factor! So 100 gr TTSX have the cool factor and higher BC. Thanks for the reply. I've read a lot posts elsewhere with H4831sc ans IMR4831sc as being very accurate. I would like some ideas from CGN.
 
I use RL22 behind a SGK 120gr in my AI, good for 3250 easily. Have some Nosler 85gr Varmints coming for coyote medicine. My Cooper M22 Varmint

Working up of course, if 57 grains of H4831 or RL22 doesn't work for you, you have a sick rifle. Don't be surprised if magnum primers work better in that cartridge. That RL22 load will approach 3400 fps.
 
My Ruger No.1 eats molycoated Nosler 85gr. BT's in front of 58gr. on IMR 4350 for an MV of around 3400 FPS and change. It is a max load, approach it with caution.

I constantly get in chit from my moral and intellectual superiors for using this load on mulies and whitetail but over a dozen animals have fallen to it with only one shot - and it anchors them on the spot. They may kick and twitch but nothing - and I mean NOTHING - walks away after being hit with it.
 
NICE!!!! Keep it coming, I just accidentally bought 1000 magnum primers (it was 5 mins before closing on Sat Night at wholesalesports) and I had a big order of bullets, powder, primers, dies, etc, so I missed the small dark writing on the win primer box that said magnum.
Anyhow, I might just use them for this rifle then. (I have a ruger 77) I bought rel 19 and 22 , H4895, IMR 4350, and H414. Would any of these powders belong in any of YOUR OWN PERSONAL RECIPES? Care to share??
I bought about 500 different Hornady bullets from 100 to 117 grains (mainly for targets at this time) so any more recipes from you guys would be great.
 
A pal of mine is a real .25/06 enthusiast and has taken very large game with his. IIRC the 100 gr TSX and a case full of R-22 was his preference.

OK, I just talked to him and he said that his go to load was 56.0 grs of IMR-4831 (which slightly edged out R-22) behind a 100 gr Ballistic Tip. He acknowledges there are much better bullets available now, but when he was shooting his .25/06, the BT was the best choice.

I'm shooting a Savage 112BVSS in 25-06 and have a Leupold VX-III, 6.5-20 long range scope with varmint reticle mounted on it. In the Hunting forum a while back, in the thread Sierra GameKings, 08-02-2010 and post # 10, I posted a home made target with the following results and my reload data.
  • - 117gr Sierra BT, weighed
  • - 48gr IMR 4350
  • - 3100 f/sec
  • - 185 yds
  • - 3 shot group 0.486"
  • - CCI 200 primers
  • - W-W brass, weighed & trimmed
  • - C.O.A.L 3.140"
In the not too distant future I may use this combo on Antelope when I get a draw.
 
The new 80gr TTSX BT looks very interesting - Barnes lists 57.5gr of Hybrid 100V for 3814fps out of a 24" barrel. I used the old, and no longer available 75gr X out of a .257 Weatherby with great results on deer and boar.
