Norinco Hp9 (14") doesnt take 870 barrels??

So i've tried putting two different 870 barrels onto my norinco hp9(14") but they don't fit! both of which fit fine on my wingmaster...

The barrels don't seem to be inserting far enough into the receiver...I took a lot of force and then it finally fit in but the guns action wouldn't work properly...the slide release stayed up and the pump would move freely...and cannot pull the trigger either and the guys at the shop said it it would take 870 barrels :(

Has anyone tried putting an 870 barrel on their hp9??

Check the area of the chamber end of the barrel that interfaces with the ejector, and compare it's fit with the factory barrel.

870 barrels should work, with the exception of the Norinco version with the longer mag tube. On that version, the barrel support ring is in a different location, and a 870 barrel will have nothing to lock it in place. Your 14 inch version should take regular barrels.
 
I hope no one gets hurt one day flipping and flopping parts that aren't made for each other and made by totally different manufacturers. Be very sure of proper fit and function before you go live.
 
They sort of fit but not always and all the ones I've tired have been canted off center....
I posted some pictures a few years ago.

I just stick with remington barrels on my remington's and chinese barrels on my chinese guns.
 
Make sure what you bought is actually an HP9, and not the Homeland Express 780. Some retailers sold off a bunch of the Homeland express shotguns as HP9's, and they are really similar on first glance, but take none of the same parts and are just horrible guns.

Check the reciever.

Check the reciever. I made that mistake when buying. Never again.

it has hp9 stamped on the side :)

Probably has to do with the fact that even Rem 870 barrels are not all the same and then you add in a chinese receiver and what do you know some of the Rem 870 barrels don't fit?
 
HP9 Receiver.

Bought the gun off the EE with no barrel and a ATI six position stock. Changed the stocks to the wood as that ATI stock just not for me.

Remington 2 3/4" smooth bore rifle sighted 20" barrel. Nothing wrong with the bolt and plate but wanted to try it with the Remington stainless forend so swapped out those parts for Remington.

The trigger assembly was a little loose so I put different pins in that tightened it up. Then went to a Remington trigger group that was snug with no movement at all.

No issues at all with fit of the parts and function. The barrel does go in snug but no cant as mentioned in a previous post.

Did some research on removing the dimples on the end of the magazine tube - same as Remington. Will tackle that somwhere down the road on my get around to it list. The magazine extension is just cosmetic for now as extra shells can't feed past the dimples in the tube.

Shot it for a round of skeet on the weekend and it does have some entertainment value.

Thanks for posting Rem3200, some barrels do indeed fit, as far as cant can you balance your receiver upside down on a flat surface, resting on the flat milled area on top of the receiver, and then look at the front sight in relation to that same flat surface?
Here's a picture of one of my Rem 870's with a 14 " HP9 barrel. I was able to rest it right on the table because it only had a small bead sight where as you will have to put yours on a block to clear the rifle sights...

Not like that ... :D you got the dog holding it up straight.

Really, the towel doesn't help hold the receiver square either. :) Keep in mind you have the clamp holding it together too. Maybe remove the clamp and then set the receiver square on a block of wood, for instance.

... and by looking at the frontal view in your photo, I think yours is crocked too.

Hey Can-down ... LOL :) nothing like squaring off an American shotgun and a crocked Chinese barrel with a Japanese square. Now that's accuracy. :p

Left the dog pic in there for that exact comment as he does have a way of getting his nose stuck in at most opportuities. That would be " Parker "

Thought the same thing that the clamp may take out some if not all misalignment but not going to disassemble for a pic. The photo is deceiving as the extra thickness of the mag extension makes it look offset from the barrel. I can eye from the bore back and looks true to me.

For the sake of the original poster all Remington pieces I put into it worked fine for me.

Happy with the way it turned out for less than the cost of a Remington Express.

so i took it to my local shop today and they said the barrel will need to modded a bit.

they said they'll know for sure in about a week

ill give an update when i hear more :)

In a week?

I figured that out through cyberspace right after I read your post...

I guess if you already have the 870 barrel and don't plan on using it with an 870 then "modding" it to your HP9 makes sense.

well they knew it needed to be modded when they looked at it..but they are busy so they said it would take about a week know exactly what to do to it and how much it will cost me
 
I had the same problem... I had to gently file the rectangular ejector notch on barrel. Also had to VERY slightly extend the locking lug recess.. and made it a hair deeper. After that she locked up tight and I have fired hundreds of rounds through the Rem barrel. I did the same with a Rem slug barrel also. Go slowly with a small stone wheel on the dremel, checking often for fit.. just take off what you need. It was very close to fitting originally, but the chinese guns are just a little tighter spec I think than the newer Rem express the barrel(s) came off.

If in doubt a good gunsmith shouldn't charge much!

Why do they want to charge you to make the barrel fit?

I had one that was a bit to tight to fit and I'm pretty sure all it needed was for some material to be removed but the indexing issue is a bit trickier to address...

its that same shop that i bought them gun from, but i didn't buy the 870 barrel there.

They said the gun should take 870 barrels and from what ive read here and on other forums most barrels do..so im not going to blame the shop because the barrel i have doesn't fit.
