Full auto SKS

Smart move if he's getting it repaired. Uncontrolled slamfires that dump the mag are just asking for an out of battery ignition and the subsequent grenading of the rifle.

To have some peoples problems....

I wouldn't take it back OR have it 'fixed'.... I wouldn't do anything but shoot it. MInd you, I likely would only do that on private property... away from all the liberal eyes here.

There is a world of difference between slam fired bursts and controlled automatic fire. Particularly with a locked breech high power rifle.
A real autorifle will not fire until the breech is closed and locked. That is why real full auto designs incorporate a means of tripping the firing mechanism after the breech has closed.
This rifle is malfunctionning, and there is no guarantee that the rifle isn't going to fire with the breech unlocked.
When this happens, someone could get hurt.
To suggest that the rifle be kept as is for shzts and giggles is unwise.
Apart from legal considerations, the rifle is dangerous to the shooter, or anyone nearby.

Ahh I'd have to agree.. though it would sound like fun to use it as full auto.. tiriaq Indeed has hit it on the head w/this one.

IF the rifle is firing full auto every time it is fired - controlled bursts - there is the possibility that someone has jiggered the mechanism, or that the mechanism is defective.
Easy enough to test - MAKE SURE THE RIFLE IS UNLOADED - #### it, pull the trigger, and hold the trigger back. Cycle the action. If there is a click as the hammer drops when the bolt closes, there is something wrong. The problem would need to be diagnosed and remedied.

if the bolt been checked out and the firing pin is free floating and surplus ammo is used then this isnt a slam fire issue, very likely its the trigger group .

as someone suggested above, very easy to check with the top cover removed , mag down and move the carrier back and forth while pulling on the trigger .

it could be a worn part or simply clogged with cosmo, people dont like to disassemble the trigger group for some reason, its easy .

SKS is cheap enuff to have two so when something wrong with one , its easy to borrow parts from the other to check which part is faulty.

but in this case , it recently purchased so i would suggest talking to the LB.

Maybe try spraying some gun scubber on the bolt face loosen up the crud.

Unbelievable that some people would want to keep and shoot a rifle that in a matter of time will injure if not kill you or bystanders.

Cheers!!

Controlled, guaranteed in-battery full-auto: safe and fun. Not legal here, but try it in the USA and you'll love it.

Uncontrolled, sporadic, potentially out-of-battery full-auto: wait until you get a slamfire that's just a WEEEEEE bit early. Then come tell us what it was like losing your sight, as you type on your braille keyboard.

Amazing how after 3 pages there's still people saying they want one doing this, its like someone saying "well you can have this car that goes rocket speeds but could explode at any time" then people clammoring over the damn thing.

I am more interested in hearing what Le Barons is going to do or not do about this

I believe this is where it was purchased

Has the friend taken it back to them, or will he try to fix on his own ?

If it were a case of soft primers or a dirty firing pin hole it would run away till it emptied. In all likeliness the trigger group is probably full of grease and not disconnecting properly (as mentioned before). The second most likely scenerio is worn out parts, again not properly disconnecting the sear. It is highly unlikely that it is slam firing, the SKS has a safety sear that prevents this from happening, much like the FN.
