Hey folks, I've made it over 1 year cig free and have been planning a gift for myself....I also want to get 1 more nice rifle b/f I getted hitched in Jan. ;) What's the overall opinion on new Winchester Super Grade rifles? Worth the extra $300 over the classic model 70? They look nice but I haven't found any reviews; thanks for any input!

I think the CRF Super Grades are beautiful rifles. If you could get one in .300H&H, .338WM and .416RM, you'd never need another rifle or cartridge, as far as hunting needs anyway.

Good work and well done:rockOn:!! Congrats on the one year accomplishment and may it be the first of many. On my first year smoke free I rewarded myself with a Hoyt Ultra-Tec compound target bow and all the trimmings. Still have the bow, still no smokes and lovin' every minute of it:). It's not a decission you'll regret.

As to your question on the model 70 Super Grade, I've had one in 300WM and I'd say yes, it's worth it. Enjoy:).

Congrats on the smoking. 4 years for me.

I love all my Model 70 CRF's whether Pre-64's, the the 1991 Supergrade, the early 2000's versions, and my Model of 2008 reintroduction. Just waiting for a 338 supergrade to show up so I can have one of those too.

You cannot go wrong. It is the biggest bang for the buck out there.

It's great to hear all the positive reviews! As for it being 'heavy' I still say holy sh** every time I pick up my Sako 75 in 300WM....it's beast but it sees the bush every year and puts meat in the freezer. :ar15:

Sounds like a Super Grade in 300WM may be in/on order....though Epps has a few in 270Win that may be worthwhile choosing from.

They also have a Featherweight Deluxe available in .300 Win Mag - you get the nice wood plus a lighter rifle.

Good for you on quitting. I'm two weeks into quitting! Sounds like an AA meeting lol. But seriously you just gave me an awesome idea as I am missing a coyote rifle in my arsenal and I will make it to next year so... That will be my reward.
Thanks dude!

Good luck with the search

Good for you....tough habit to break but so worth it.

The Featherweight Deluxe's are certainly nice but Winchester only lists 30-06 and 270. Probably stick with the Super Grade anyway....tough choice b/t 270 and 300....I'll have to sleep on that one...

Same as a Sako 75 Hunter, about 8 lbs naked with rings, bases, full magazine, sling and scope a bit over 10 pounds.
I wouldn't buy a 10lb rifle, esp in a 270. It may have some appeal at first, but after a while I'd be leaving it behind and taking something lighter.

I'd be more interested in a Kimber. At least with one of them you can have light weight, good looks and all the attributes of a M70.

Congratz on the 1 yr smoke free.

I quit over 20yrs ago. I never got into running, but do a lot of power walking. At 50yrs old, I can walk for an hour and barely break a sweat. You will be reap those kind of benefits in spades down the road.

24 years since I quit. I'm 51 now and doubt I'd be in the shape I am if I hadn't quit back then. I plan to buy a new Super-grade in .338WM as soon as can get my hands on one.
Cheers
Geoff

You quit around the same time I started. I exercise but quitting cigs has made the biggest difference to my health and how I feel. And yeah, I do look forward to taking advantage of that!

BTW Camper, if you made it 2 weeks you have all the tools you need to make it 2 years. Good luck!
