Ruger #1 Cracked Stocks?

I've noticed that a lot of the EE posted Ruger #1 rifles have "cracked stocks". Is this common with the Ruger #1 (a design problem), or a result of given calibers?

Anyone with feedback on this issue?

Maybe you can provide the EE links to all these Ruger #1's having cracked stocks, eh?
I just went thru the first 10 EE threads selling # 1's and guess how many have cracked stocks..

That crack was "most likely" caused by abuse on the owners part..

24hr.campfire website has a single shot forum and a lot of Ruger #1 owners post there.. I have never seen a thread on the Ruger # 1's having a cracked stock and if it was a problem they would be posting about it..
Do a search there if you like..
My experience with three #3's and three #1's is that cracked stocks are not a problem...:)

heavy recoiling rounds will cause the stock to crack right behind the safety .

i've tried several bedding compounds to fix the problem , the last time i bedded it i used some 3m " panel bonding adhesive " ( a type of 2 part epoxy ) and i'll see how long that lasts before it becomes pounded out .

i've been thinking about some sort of aluminum block to bed the reciever into , then attach the stock to that .

X2. My father shoots Ruger singles, and in the several dozen none have cracked their stock. I personally have had them in 45-70, 416 rigby, and 450 Ackley magnum without issue.

I think Burnt_servo experince with cracks behind the action is interesting. I'd like to hear the results of his bedding experiment. Great looking rifle with a lot of fans (myself included).

I would be interested in learning more about bedding the butt-stock to prevent cracking.
My #1 in 450/348 AI will rattle my dentures ( even when I'm not wearing them), no cracks yet, but no harm in an ounce of prevention either....

I have been working in the Gunsmithing industry for over 30 yrs and have only seen one Ruger no 1 with a cracked stock and it was from abuse, i have repaired many bolt guns with cracked stocks all makes and models.

i've seen it on a 458 winchester , and my own 45-120 .

the aluminum block idea i was thinking about came about from thinking that wood can very vary very different from stock to stock , and from day to day even ( given different amounts of moisture in the air , and how warm it is ) .

the surface area to absorb all that recoil is focused into a very small area . when that moves , flexes or becomes pounded out , the area behind the safety now starts to transfer recoil into the stock .
when that happens it starts to act like a wedge .
