Looking for opinions as to what is the most accurate and best to shoot from both prone and standing. I know everyone raves about the 452 American, but personally I don't like the look of the longer, thinner barrel on it compared to the shorter, thicker barrel on the 452 Varmint. Between the two I definately prefer the look of the Varmint, but does one shoot noticeably better than the other or is one more comfortable for different shooting positions?? Also I've recently noticed the 16" barreled American, this one is much more appealing to me, anyone shot or own this one? If so, what are your impressions? Basically, I'm trying to find a nice overall shooter that performs well from the bench, prone, standing, etc. as I will only be owning this one .22 for awhile to come. I was previously wanting a Savage, but the classic looks of these CZ's has got me looking hard at them. Anyway, any input from those in the know will be much appreciated.

A lot of the folks in the CZ forum at Rimfire Central will tell you that their best shooting rifle is the Full Stock version of the 452. I would concur, with one exception, I have an American that the previous owner had bedded and it is very accurate as well in 22LR. There was another RFC fellow that had experimented with leather shims on his CZ Varmint and sent me a shim to try on my Varmint and it mage a very noticeable difference in the accuracy.
Another thing most every one does is to buy and install a Yo - Dave trigger kit. FS

Thanks for the replies guys. Well I just went ahead and did it, ordered the last American in 16" bbl that Prophet River had, they were out of the Varmint in .22lr so that made my decision easy. Gotta say that Clay was a great guy to deal with on the phone, was nearly 8:00pm and he was still answering his cel. phone and happy to answer my questions and get the deal done. I'm thinking that I'll be happy owning this as my first .22 ever :D

One is an easy number, but get two and they seem to multiply after that!

Not there yet, but I'll get there someday. So far this is my second gun I've bought and I'm going to take my PAL course tomorrow, so I think I'm doing OK so far(though there are a helluva lot more I want to buy). You're probably right though, if this CZ impresses me the way they do most people who own them, it most likely won't be my last one.

I have a 452 American and a 453 which is basically a 452 varmint with the set trigger. Both are .17 HMR's and I find I like the heavy barrel 453 better. I can shoot little tiny groups at 100 yards all day. They are by far the most accurate rifles I own and all my center fires fail to compare.

I have a Style in .22. It is the American with a synthetic stock and it will shoot tiny little groups at 50 yards all day. I love my CZ's.

Wow, with a start like that I predict you owning only .22s within a few years. :D

Faststeel, any more info about bedding the CZ, those leather strips sound interesting. Mine shoots pretty good groups with nothing done to it but a trigger kit, but I have been meaning to tweak the bed screws and find what the sweet spot is for the tightness.

Yeah, well I kinda wanted to make sure my first .22 was one that I'd keep pretty much forever(maybe give to one of my daughters down the road if they show interest, but then I'd have no reason to buy a Scout for each of them:D).

"I ordered my 16" bbl CZ American from Clay with a Leupold VX II EFR, rifle is amazing,,,love it.

Cheers!!"

Glad to hear you like it so much, betting I will too. Unfortunately I don't think I've got the $$ to put a Leupold on mine(at least not right away). Need to find a nice scope at a smaller price point for now. :(

The leather pieces actually fit right in the screw holes. For use with any of the stocks like the Varmint that have the 3rd screw hole in the stock. FS

Fassteel,

Pardon my ignorance. Is this a homemade part, or something bought off the shelf, if so where can I buy it?

If homemade, can you please describe it or post a picture?

How exactly is it installed?

Thanks

What are you putting on it for glass?

I wish I knew, I really know nothing about scopes, so I'm hoping for some input from those that know more. I want to get something decent, but Leupold is out of my range for the time being. Thinking some sort of Bushnell in the 3x9 range maybe? I want to be able to shoot between 25-100 yards at least with it, longer if possible. Suggestions anyone?

I would highly reccomend the Weaver Classic Rimfire 2.5-7x28mm. Great glass for the money, on Rimfire Central guys are saying they are about 90% of a Leupold VX11 EFR but costs 1/2 the $$. They are specific to rimfire making them parallax free at 50 yards. I looked at one and looked through my VX II rimfire and couldnt really see a difference.

Cheers!!

Don't be afraid to buy Leupold or Bushnell used as they honour their warranty regardless of who first bought it. You can always, get more optic for your $$ buying used.
