.308 Loading that won't Break the Bank

Looking for a Powder and bullet combo, that I can use for hunting, Whitetail Deer and Black Bear, but will also be suitable for punching paper. Don't want to break the bank, so want to be frugal with bullet choice, with out compromising the killing of game quickly and efficiently.

I have used Hornady's Interlock's in 6.5 with decent results, so am thinking about them, but wondered if I couldn't eek out some more savings with your suggestions.

I guess some of it depends on how much brass you have on hand, or whether you can lay your hands on some at a good price. There is a store offering Remington 150 and 180 gr PP ammo at under $17/box, which is not too shabby.

Consider that for basic bullets you are looking at $30-$35/100, so $0.30-$0.35 per shot. Then look at even a mild charge of ~40gr of powder at ~$30 per pound, plus primers and you are over $0.50 per shot without factoring in anything for the brass. New brass is about $0.50 each. So you are already over the price of the factory ammo. And either way you will end up with a pile of once fired brass.

Here's some frugal 308....
Nosler BT's....Winchester PP's....Hornady interlocks/SST's....Sierra GK's with some 4895 or Varget
They've all put meat in my freezer....

I shot the 150 gr ballistic tip into a bunch of deer from my 308. No muss, no fuss, dead deer. I am not sure if they are cheaper than Hornayd interlocks though.

Mine liked reloder 15.

Yes, I should have mentioned, I have a good supply of brass.

Quotin' for truth. Used them in .30-06 and .270 with no fuss. They work great and they are very reasonably priced.

180 gr Interlock. Good for deer and bigger things too. Sight in for one bullet /load.

The only real way to get cheaper bullets, is to buy bulk packed, seconds. If you can talk your dealer into getting them. Usually, they are only available by special order. Normally, the only reason they are seconds, is because of visual staining.
Privi, is now offering their SP bullets in blister packs, at reasonable prices.

Buying components in bulk, has many advantages, if you can afford the initial outlay.

Well, I see a lot of votes for the Interlock, so will probably go that way. I have used them in 6.5x55 with good success! I have some RL15 on hand so might try that or puick some 4895 up.
