Hey guys,

Im in the process of putting together a display of sorts revolving around Second World War German and Soviet articles. Basically I am looking for a few quality repro medals as Im sure the originals are few and far between and/or well out of my price range. I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with these and could offer any sort of insight into what is available and from where? what would you reccomend? I have seen a few Soviet medals on ebay, specifically the "victory over Germany" medal which seems as if it would fit in nicely. I am also looking for a Nazi and Soviet flag to use as a backdrop - no political meaning here, simply history

Thanks!

I have found that the lower end of period German WW2 medals can be had for a relatively good price and are abundant but the higher you go up the medal chain, the heavier the price. Plenty of fakes floating around too so do your homework, have a look at plenty of pictures of period items, then go hunting for the medal(s) you wish to have.

Hope this helps.

Remember Barry Sadler? Writer of the Green Beret song. He collected german medals. Turned out that 80% of his collection he thought were original were FAKE.
Vell ve lost der war, but all of those Americans wanted souveniers, so ve just re-opened der factory using the original dies und kept on making the stuff.
Of course Fakes are not all german. I collect British cap badges and they are restriking the rare ones using the original dies.

The fakers also read collector magazines, and when fakes are exposed, they upgrade their fakes.

Just for fun, the best medal in my collection is a WATERLOO medal to a R.A. Driver. I also got a copy of his discharge signed by the Iron Duke himself!
Stopped buying medals many years ago as the prices have gone insane.
