Took my P-38 to the range for the first time tonight. At 25 meters I only got 4 out of 40 on the target, and that's shooting with my hands resting on the bench!

I think I'll stick to 22's

I assume you were shooting SA off the bench?

They are ammo sensitive for both accuracy and function. Try as many different makes of ammo as you can afford. Stick with round nose bullets. Don't give up, you will find something it likes.

Mine to was all over the place, until I crafted a reload it likes. Now puts 8 for 8 on a 8" paper plate @ 25yds if I do my job.

I shoot S&B 115gr TFMJ in mine. I can't recall exactly my grouping at 25 yds from a couple of months back but hitting the target was not a problem. What condition is your barrel in. Some of the P-38's are well worn or corroded from wartime ammo. Pistol cleaning was apparently not a German officer's strong point.

The P-38 wasn't designed to win the war, but it is accurate enough for shooting someone in the head when they are kneeling right in front of you.

Try removing the scope.

I have been told that the 9mm that they ran through their pistols was pretty hot, to the point that people have to run +p just to feed reliably that was in the lugers but I assume it was the same for the p 38's.

Bearing in mind that a pistol is for fighting your way back to a rifle you never should have dropped in the first place...

... the P38 is fine at its intended job.
