I was wondering if anyone has changed the direction of thier SKS bolt handle, I was thinking somone could cut the handle on a 45 degree angle, rotate it and weld it back on so its vertical instead of horizontal, Kinda like a galil.

Iam debating on doing this. Anyone done it before?

Slam-fire city.

What would make it slam-fire if only the handle was altered?

You may find the handle overly short if you do perform this mod, but it definately will make it unique! I say try it if you have the skills to cut and weld it properly, or get someone you trust to do it.

How about filing the sides the handle straight, then fit and bolt a piece of metal to it vertically without welding ? You can easily change the vertical piece.

Or just cut off the handle completely and then weld the cutoff piece or another piece of metal vertically.

Or just drill a hole in the handle vertically, and drop & fit a screw driver in, there's your easily removable vertical handle.

Drill bigger hole, #### it with your co**... whoa, wait a minute...this is getting out of hand. Sorry about that.:p

would it be safe to say that maybe you should buy a second Bolt Carrier just in case he has a bad result with the weld or something else happens, plus you'll have interchangeable carriers

easy enough to do almost any way you like it, I cut mine off, fabbed up a hook style cocking handle and welded it on, cutting off and moving the original would be even easier. Flipping it to the other side of the carrier 180 degrees would have it jabbing in your side when carrying with a sling so having it angled to the left should work out fine. The only problem I see is welding inside the hollowed portion under the handle and then cleaning it up and making it look good. Would take some very tedious work with a small die grinding burr. Welding the original knob off the cocking handle onto a piece of round stock, then welding the round stock to the carrier would be the easiest way I can think of, and does away with the hollowed portion that would be visible with the handle more upright.
