Who is the best 1911 Pistol Smith in Canada??

The answer to that question can depend on what kind of work that you want done... but two names that come up time and again are Joe Dlask (Dlask Arms) Gunnar Christensen (Armco). I don't think you would go wrong with either of them. They both know their way around a 1911 with the best of them.

If one wants a 1911 job done right then a bit of a wait should be no consequence.

Reg Gartland of the Toronto area was also highly regarded for his 1911 smithing ability. However, he got sick a few years ago and stopped taking on any work. I haven't heard anything further about him. I hope he is OK.
 
I haven't had anything but restoration/refinishing work done, but Nick Kaikkonen of Vulcan Gun Refinishing is the best I've seen on that end of gunsmithing. Amazing finishes, and he rebuilds butchered frames and slides so you'd never know they weren't original. He is a true artist.
 
For a 'ground up' custom 1911, maybe Jo Dlask, for a full tune with specialty metal work (fitting for accuracy etc.) perhaps Barry at Bits of Pieces, Gunnar (Armco) isn't, from what I hear, doing as much full custom work as he once did, but he still does the 45-08 conversion, and does trigger and reliability work second to none (his trigger jobs are some of the best you'll ever find, IMHO). These are the guys in my area (BC). Any one of these three are highly capable of building an outstanding 1911.
 
I am doing my first major 1911 work with Casey from Tac Ord. I will let you know if he is one of the best when I get it back :)
