I'm looking for some input/opinions re 9mm and .45 ammo.

Here's my question -- What recommendations do CGN's have for specific makes, including exact description, for 9mm and .45 ammo which:
  1. is the most reliable in terms of the best performance for failure to feed and failure to fire
  2. is the lowest cost , BUT point (1) above is MUCH more important than cost
  3. needn't rank super high in terms of accuracy
  4. minimal fouling for gun

The 9mm is for use in a Sig P226, and the .45 is for use in a Norinco 1911.

Thanks!

Winchester WinClean.

Brass-Enclosed-Base bullet, lead-free primer, in the white box.

I would add availability to your list because some factory ammo is harder to find locally if you just want to go pick up a few boxes. I could only find Remington UMC .45 Auto for target ammo. There has been no American Eagle .45 Auto FMJ or Winchester USA (White Box) .45 Auto FMJ for months. I could find Winchester USA (White Box) .45 Auto JHP though :). Anyway, I haven't had any malfunctions with Remington UMC .45 Auto in my HK USP Tactical .45 and it shoots pretty clean too.

As your in Wild Rose Country, i would suggest BDX reloads. I've shot over 5000 rounds of 9mm through my Glock 17, and NEVER have I had an issue.

The .45 is pretty popular as well.

Available at 2 locations in Calgary

my Norc doesn't like the SWC profile for feeding, but otherwise Wolf reloads work like a charm. it could have just been a heavy recoil spring that didn't let the slide go far enough back and/or a wussy target charge

I agree, BDX is your best bet. At least for your 9mm needs. BDX .45ACP is pretty hard to come by... Haven't seen any on the shelves of the two Calgary dealers for at least 8 or 9 months.

BDX 9mm sells for around $75 for a 300 round box and is as reliable accurate and clean as any factory ammo.

For .45, you may not have a lot of choices anyways. Often you just end up buying whatever factory ammo you can find on the shelves. And really, it's all pretty decent. I haven't really notice any real significant difference between the brands of factory .45 that I have shot. But if I can find it, I do like the WinClean or the UMC ledless ammo for indoor shooting just for the reduced exposure to airborne lead.

Any commercial ammo (or commercial reload) having a round nose bullet (FMJ Ball) should feed 100% in those pistols. I'd use 124 grn in the Sig and good old 230 grain in the Norc. Cleanliness can vary from lot to lot these days, so you take your chances on that.

I just bought a few thousand rounds of it from Wolverine Supplies...they seem to have it

I agree, it is the only ammo I put through my toys. I have four 9mm pistols; 2 Sig's, 1 Glock, and an XD 9. They all feed the BDX well and is not too bad to clean up. No issues to report and I am very happy with the price.
