OK, I tried a search and didn't find an answer to this one so here it goes.

I have my PAL and am a member of the local club, but I haven't owned handguns in close to 20 years. I am going to upgrade to my RPAL, and my searching here tells me the upgrade shouldn't take too long to process (maybe a month or so). I understand I will need to pass some kind of test at my local club top get a transport permit (correct ?) but my question is... once I get my RPAL, am I licensed to purchase a pistol and have it here at home? I'm anxious to get started.:)

yes!
1. upgrade to RPAL (1day)+waiting time to receive your RPAL card if you pass exam that day
2. Gun club training for handguns(1 day) plus probationary period (where you can already buy your handgun, club issues ATT, and bring it at home and play with it!
yes yes yes!

in short, yes

once purchased, the store will apply/ask for a STATT, this will allow you to bring the firearm home, and only home.

then wait for your club to do it's part and get you your LTATT

Welcome back to the RPAL club......

Welcome back to the RPAL club......

Excellent! Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks for the welcome back. I used to enjoy shooting handguns, then I was moving so much after college it got to be a real PITA. When the PAL system started, I had a brain fart and only got my PAL (didn't really understand the new system). For the past few years I keep thinking I should upgrade and get back into pistols, but I've been too busy. I've been to some clubs in the US with buddy's and did some pistol shooting over the last couple of years and it has really reignited my interest but the severe restrictions have had me dragging my heels. I finally just decided "screw it" - it is what it is and whether it takes a day or a year, I might as well get started. It can't be THAT bad - there's still lots of folks doing it. :)
