I'm sure this is a much written question but cant seem to put my fingers on anything as yet so here goes.......I was out with my son gun shopping yesterday, I'm a lefty and dont intend to try and shoot or manipulate my main handgun with my right hand so my first choice and almost written in stone is a S&W M&P in 9mm or .40 cal. Its almost completely modifiable to a lefty, I have heard great reviews from dealers who say customer service from the factory is second to none so I think I'm set on my choice. I also looked at several 1911 .45 cal[who would buy a 1911 in anything BUT .45?]. I looked at several, the Kimber ss was very pretty and no doubt the poser value is 10 out of 10. Then I made a big mistake.....I looked and played with a Norinco 1911 for less than $400!!!!! I could buy 4 for the price of a Kimber. I have my poser piece in my Beretta o/under, beautiful gun but is it worth 3 times what I could have bought an o/u for? Who cares, I like it. But you know, that Norinco looks more like my idea of a 1911 than most others I have played with. Are aftermarket parts easy to get? Are they a reliable viable option for my .45 1911? Money is not a huge factor for me but I really liked the rugged feel of the Norinco, the Kimber felt different, not better, not worse, different. Any unbiased, un emotional opinions out there? I'm a long long time lurker and infrequent poster. This site is bar none, THE BEST resource out there. Thanks for reading me guys and gals...........

I would not call it relaible, you get what you pay for with one of those.
You'll get a good 1000 rds out of it before little issues pop up, they aren't terribly accurate and don't shoot nice.
I have shot other 1911's and own a Kimber, when you shoot the Norinco IMO you can tell it's a cheap gun. Some guys out there can tune them and upgrade parts in them though to get them shooting nice.

Norinco 1911A1

I have shot thousands of RDS out of a Norinco 1911 and still ticking.yes its not a target pistol but every bit as good as any others and for 400 bucks a super deal.
Now you can customize one and spend hundreds on it but never get your money back.As they say you can put lip stick on a pig but its still a pig. LOL
They have excellent steel and will last a life time..Good guns for the money The yanks wish they could buy them for that price...

You need to buy 4 norinco's so you can possibly get one to work.any firearm made by this company is junk they are an embarrassment to the firearm industry.

I like my norc 1911... If I had to do it over again I would buy the sporter model. The bes
t part about the norc is if you don't like 1911s, you don't take a big hit when you sell it. Also you can practice gunsmithing.

i tried one at the closest range to me and didn't like it a whole lot, but that was mainly due to the nasty double stack this one had.

I'm looking at getting one. Was going to get the Remington 1911 that is out now but I figure for $400, half the price, I could save some coin for another type of gun. It will be my first gun, so starting out cheap and maybe work my way up to something 'nicer' if I don't like the way it shoots.

Norinco's are knock-offs, like a fake Rolex. It may be a watch, it may work, but when it all boils down it's just another inferior Chinese product. If you're the kind of person that would rather have a gun that "looks" like a 1911, then go right ahead and get one. Norinco has no concern for quality, just turning out really cheap guns that sell to people with Champagne taste and a beer budget.

I have a NP-28 (double stack 9 mm) and I love it, it is modified though, 2.5 lb trigger, comp hammer etc. quite heavy, shooting is a breeze.

I have several Norcs, you have to put some work into them, the comment about fake and Rolex is not true, you cannot tune a fake Rolex, it will eventually break and it really is junk.

A Norc can be made into a really nice gun with many years of service, not all may be reliable right out of the box, but sure nicer than the plastic Glocks (I have a G17 gen 3 and hate it). My wife who is a real lightweight shares my opinionBTW, she prefers the NP-28 over the Glock any day. She likes our SIG226 better though. Yes, we have many guns, ...

If you want perfection, don't buy a Norc, personally I would never drop $1,500 on a Kimber, even $600 for a plastic M&P seems overpriced to me.

My NP-28 is 9 mm, not sure where you get the idea that all 1911 have to be in .45?!!

Stay with your plastic stuff and Kimber, a Norc won't make you happy.

An interesting point of view.... I do wonder if this is based on having owned Norinco 1911's, based on having owned just one that turned out to be a lemon, or having owned none & just conjecture?

Anyway, I will preface my remarks by saying I have been "into" 1911's for ~ 30 years now. I have easily owned dozens of different ones in that time. In the early years it was mostly Colt 1911/1911A1's or USGI 1911A1's as that was what there was. As the years have gone by and more makers have jumped on the 1911 bandwagon I have had others as well, including several Norinco 1911's. However, I still do have yet to own a Kimber.

Of those Norinco 1911's that I have owned I personally have yet to get a lemon amongst them. I currently have 5 Norinco 1911's, a mid series Norinco compact [commander]; an older full size 1911A1, two NP-29's [the full size 1911A1 single stack chambered in 9mm] and a custom built up on an armacoated full size Norinco 1911A1 frame with other maker internal parts in the frame and a Colt Series 70 top-end with Wilson combat sites. Not an issue amongst them.

Are they Kimbers? No. Are they Colts? No. But, if you want a decent economical single stack 1911A1 then I say they are decent value for the money. Personally, if I was just starting out I'd opt for a new or used Norinco 1911A1 or compact [commander model] via site sponsor, Armco. What you will get is a nicely smoothed out 1911A1 that will come with a 1 year warranty. IMHO, it doesn't get much better than that.

Well said indeed.

don'tcha just love it when somebody comes out and just says they're junk- no anecdotal evidence, no explaination of what the problem was- just the statement-i've had a 45 for years, and the BEST one is a ww2 remington-rand stock gi issue, followed by the colt mk 4/series 70- but that's all old school and you can't get those anymore, unless you buy used- now, to the problem at hand- the norinco- it's at least as good as some of the wartime pistols, some better- it's a liitle rougher in certain parts, but if you want something that works RIGHT out of the box, get the government usgi model- to quote JEFF COOPER "WORKS PRETTY GOOD FOR A PIECE OF CHINESE JUNK"-if you want a VERY nice one- get it from gunnar at armco or get him to go over it- a lot of the folks stateside buy these just for the frame- it's metalluragy is excellent

I could not have said it better myself, thank you....

It is quite amazing how many expert opinions we have here.... I find it quite interesting that we sell thousands of Norinco pistols every year, which we fully garantee under our no BS warranty policy, we have very few problems, very few issues....

BTW, since you already own several, have a look at our latest >>>> http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/1911A1-Sport-TT.shtm

KELLER;
Perhaps we should stick to the facts.... Lets not compare apples and oranges....

"just another inferior Chinese product. " Interesting comment, how many have you owned, how many have you, in fact, shot"

"Norinco has no concern for quality" Of course you base this on your broad base of knowledge of the product ?? Of course you have taken the time to compare the products offered over the last few years by other importers with the products we have made for us ?? You have been to the various factories to check out production ??

Of course you read the report on this board by an engineer who did an analysis of the metal used ??

I wouldn't be shooting steel challenge and service rifle without Norinco and suppliers like Marstar. Simply can't aford $1200 for a hand gun or rifle.

Have:
M305
CQ311
M93
1911C

Have tried:
NP22
NP28
NP18

Looking for:
NP29

Looking for:
NP29

I think just about everyone that has a Norinco single stack 1911A1 in .45ACP would like to have one in 9mm, too.

If Marstar gets them in again there will be a feeding frenzy for sure!

Like fellow mod Hungry says, don't just get one, get two! My plans for mine will be to keep one as a 9mm and convert the other to .38 Super as at least one other fellow CGN'er did with his NP-29.

:jerkit:
To the OP, gun snobs can thank companies like Marstar for bringing in Norinco, which has made shooting pistol affordable. I never would have been able to afford to get into restricted firearms without Norinco(my first pistol was a 1911a1). They are good pistols for the money, and you dont have to spend 2000 on it. I have fired many, yet to see a lemon. If you really had to buy 4 of them to get one that works, companies like Marstar(which offer a warranty on their Norc pisols) would be out of business!

well if there sunch junk it surprises me that when you look at the wilson combat site that all off there parts are listed as fitting the norq pistols i have a new commander from norinqo and love it and love it it dosent jam like my brothers para gi expert and shoots nice groups for a gun with an 11 pound trigger lol just waiting on some parts to smooth it all out
