Marlin X7 rifles do it again!

Yes, it definitely has an excellent trigger, one that has greatly improved my results at the target end. My last two rifle purchases came with adjustable triggers
and I truely appreciate them. I can only hope we're seeing an end of the "Lawyer Approved" triggers that we've had to contend with for so long.

don't want to hyjack this thread but a few members have been asking me to post pics of the boyds stock i put my XS7 in.243 in to. here she is. totally free floated now. mine had the same friction spot on the stock as many others.(both on my .243 XS and my 30-06 XL and my buddies .243 XS) i still think these gun are one of the best, if not the best bang for the buck rifle....
yes pun inteaded.

i don't have any pics of groups but well under 1" at 100yrds with el cheapo winchester super x ammo. great guns.

The stock looks great fergie. I just ordered mine this week (I got the boyd's classic in nutmeg laminate). How long did it take for yours to arrive?

Shot mine yesterday (7-08), had loaded up some TSX's. Was absolutely NOT surprised that mostly they didn't work worth a damn, I couldn't get them to group in my 7mmRM either. Loaded up some 140 Game Kings tonight and expect better results at least on paper.

It's almost like the TSX's are oversized, I wrecked 3 cases seating them and they ALL were hard seating (as they were for the RM)...the GK's just slip right in like any other cartridge I load for. I also got significantly higher speed back when I was using them in the RM, than the same weight GK so I take that as further evidence toward my theory they are oversized. Guess I should caliper them and report back.

Did the friction points affect your accuracy at all? I had a friction point and my groups weren't improving regardless of all the different loads I tried in my 270. I've free floated the barrel and have yet to try the accuracy since.

haven't noticed any change in accuracy from factory with the friction spot to the boyds and free floated. both accurate enough for me and any hunting i'll be doing with the rifle.

Over 100 rounds down the pipe and still patterns like a shotgun. Have had a (very) few groups that would be good enough for hunting I suppose, 5 in 1.5" @ 100M but was hoping for better. 3 different bullets 2 different powders 2 different primers, in various combinations. Have hogged out the barrel channel. Retightened scope (6500 2.5-16) and mount, and action and no, I didn't overtighten it. Will probably bed it this weekend. Haven't tried putting a shim/pressure point under the barrel yet.

Forgot, I also bought a neck sizing die and will be using that instead of FL going forward.

Well, between this one and another one I've been working on load development for, I was seriously doubting my shooting ability! 300+ rounds between the 2 rifles and not a single 5-shot group worthy of even talking about.

Traded the Marlin on a T3 light in the same 7-08 caliber and 2 of my first 5 'load development' groups went all through 1 hole. WHEW! Good riddance to the Marlin. 40 gr Varget behind a 140GK (little slow, 2650ish, I don't think Bambi can outrun it) and 46gr W760 154 SST @ 2720ish (slightly over Hornady book max 45.6, usual warnings apply).

Just ordered a .270 in camo today from WSS at $429.99; buddy ordered one in black composite at $389.99. None in stock at Kamloops store but 13 camo and 6 black available in the cross-country WSS inventory. ETA 10 days, looking forward to it.

Well after numerous attempts of loading I couldn't get the rifle (xl7 .270) to shoot any 130's very well. Tightest I could get was about 1.6" @ 100 yards. I then free floated the barrel and tried again.... I still couldn't get the rifle to shoot the 130's to my liking. I tried Nosler BT, Hornady sst's with w760, i4831, h4831sc, varget etc. but still couldn't get it to shoot.

I was starting to get extremely frustrated with the rifle and contemplating getting rid of it. Instead I went ahead and tried some of my J-B bore paste that I had lying around. I scrubbed the barrel quite a bit until I was satisfied. I then loaded up some 140 gr. Nosler accubonds on top of 58 gr of H4831sc. I got out to the range and lined up the scope. I let my barrel cool for 5-10 min. in between shooting. Much to my surprise the rifle shot just under 1" @ 100 yards. YEE haaaa, she's finally sub moa shooter.
I get extremely frustrated when my rifles don't shoot moa or less and finally my work has paid off. I am finally a believer of the XL7... I just had to do a little work in order to get it to shoot.:shotgun:

Well the stock was $92 US plus shipping, I think it came out to about $130 canadian.

So

Rifle $389
Stock $130
Scope$220 (bushnell 3200 3-9x40)
Rings $25(weavers)

All told $764 for the whole package. Now I already had the scope and rings, And I'm pretty sure the scope was less than $200 when I bought it, and I don't think the rings were that expensive, so probably less. Pretty good I think.

The stock was a straight drop-in affair. I may bed it at some point in the future but for now it shoots more than good enough for a hunting rifle.
