Volkssturmgewehr VG.1 rifle

Get hold of a copy of W. Darrin Weaver's "Desperate Measures".
Detailed information about all the Volkssturm weapons. The most common Volkssturm rifle was the Carcano M91.
Incidentally, The description in the link refers to the receiver being cast. Wrong.
Gas handling in the event of a blown primer or case, and primary extraction might not be too good, but these rifles were intended to be used.
Walther was a well connected Party member. His firm made VG1 rifles in a shop in a concentration camp.
So few were made and issued that they are a footnote in history. Most surviving specimens are in decent condition. If you want to buy one, better have a fat wallet. VK and VG firearms command high prices.
Oddly enough, Japanese equivalents, like the Nagoya Dockyard Arsenal Special Navy Rifle are modestly priced in comparison.

Looks like BIG bullets were being put through a crummy .22 rifle. You'd have to be desperate just to shoulder that thing.
