Is this the best you can get for 223 ammo from a factory load? I recently acquired a bit of RUAG Swiss Ordance 5.56x45(.223) FMJ 63grs to try out in my SigArms rifle. I'm just curious what others have experienced with this ammo in their rifles? Type of rifle used? Thanks in advance for replies as I'm sure there are a few posts on this topic but the search function won't work for me,

I recently was at Shooting Edge Calgary and purchased a box of 50 RUAG Swiss Ordance 5.56 (233). I’m also curious about this ammo. Shooting Edge told me that it is match type ammo. What I also would like to know is this ammo actually 5.56 NATO or .233 rem SAMI spec ammo. To me it looks like it is 5.56 NATO because it has the physical features that you can see such as the annealed casing a crimped primer and sealant on the primer and neck of the case. I notice also that it has .223 stamped on the base of the case so I to would like to know if this is “NATO” spec ammo before I use it in my .223 as I under stand that is not a good thing to do.

Howdy

The GP 90 ammo question should be on the top 10 list of most asked questions.

RUAG Swiss Ordance 5.56 is GP90 ammo in a civilian marked casing. It has nothing to do with NATO, (it's not the SS109 slug. Although RUAG does make the NATO loading) and it's not SAAMI either. Google is your friend.

As far as the Hornady 75grn TAP, If your rifle is 1 in 7 twist it should be fine.
If your rifle is 1 in 10, don't bother.

I own a 1 in 7 twist. It did not like anything that was 55grn WIN/FED/R-P
It likes some SS109 loadings, European, not American. Shot GP90 great.

As far as reloading, 75grn Hornady was good, 77grn Sierra and Lapua was good. The best bullet was Sierra's 65grn SBT GameKing.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 1:10 in my SigArms 223. I have couple folks give me hints for reloading and trying thru her ... however, read alot about this RUAG being the shizznat for my rifle as far as factory ammo. I'll try it out and see how she likes it. Thanks again,

p.s. I know this subject has been asked a million times but the search function won't work for me ... :(

GP90 is Swiss ISSUE ammo. It is is made to very high standards, but believe it or not Ruag does make MATCH .223. I've heard stories from Switzerland of people shooting 20mm at 300m with a PE90 and the match stuff.

You can find it on their website but I don't think TSE brings it in. I've never seen it here.

I was not impressed with the RUAG, 2" in my 700P and 2.5 " + in my AR, I was hoping this was going to be the Holy Grail of 223 ammo:bangHead:

I was never satisfied with the RUAG in my the 1/10 twist (or the PMC bulk Korean stuff), if you can find hornady match or tap in 55gr you will be tickled pink, really, Don't bother Hornady in 75 gr as another poster said. Call TSE they do bring in other RUAG ammo and may be able to get you the match stuff. They bring it in in 308. That ruag does hit hard though.

All my Ruag GP90 is stamped 223 and no nato markings on it at all, going to assume its not the same ammo the rifle was factory tested with and the reason that I can't get it to group better than 3 inches out of a 1/10 at 100m. No quite the accuracy I was expecting from the ammo., by the way do those little plastic things that come with the rifle really help speed load the ammo off the plastic strips? haven't figured out how to use it yet.

It is not GP90 ammo then. It could be anything from 69gr match to 55gr police load.

The mag loader attaches to the back of the mag. The clip is inserted and you push down on the top cartridge and push them into the mag. Keep in mind that there are Swiss and NATO stripper clips and guides available and they are not interchangeable.

Cie, this is the Ammo I thought was GP90, Does not shoot well at all in 1/10 twist SAN, head stamped .223, 63 grain. my mistake. These are the stripper clips I can't get to work with the SAN mag.

Finally did a little research and this is obviously not GP90, bought it at TSE in Calgary and the salesman referred to it as GP90 but obviously was incorrect. No wonder its not as accurate as I expect. At least it looks like I can use it in a .223 without concern

Form my experience the AMMO is NO WHERE NEAR match ammo. the salesmen are feeding a line of bull to sell the ammo

I think that holds true for all that Swiss crap TSE and Target were selling.
Just because it's expensive does not make it good.
I shot a few types of the mighty Swiss ammo..... never again.

You are wrong.

The actual GP-90 is considerably more accurate than the 63 grain or 55 grain ball ammo. That being said, none of it was ever touted as being 'match grade', just simply outstanding FMJ or Ball service ammunition.

RUAG does make and market 'match ammo' which is exceptional.
