What are requirement for a photograph on PAL renewal application:
- must it be color or B&W will do?
- can I just print one on my printer at home? (my printer is not professional photo printer so quality is not the best, but you can clearly see that this is me). Or I should go to some studio?

Thanks.
Yuri

Must be colour

Can use your printer if it will print a photo. Use photo paper.

If, when complete, the picture looks terrible, try plan "B".

Go to a Japan Camera or similar place that does Passport Photos. Most just higher end dye sub printers...$15 bucks or so and it takes 20 mins.

Better safe than sorry

My experience is if you walk into WalMart and show them the photo spec's the response will be "this is for a firearms licence, right".

Just say yes and pretty soon you will have your pictures :D

well when the government was running around sucking people into getting POL's they took all of their pictures with a Polaroid. i have been present when Area Firearms Officers have taken pictures of juniors, again Polaroid. if you want to do it at home do it. check what the application says about the picture on whither or not it has to be BW or colour.

just to give you an idea of how bad the POL pictures were i have a friend who had his taken with his hat on and dark glasses. i always threaten him that i am going to call the government and tell them they have my picture on his POL.

I had this experience at CAA. They claim to do pics for renewals all the time.

I just did mine on a cheap home printer, If the ink and photo paper I had used turned out to be no good I would have gone to the drugstore where you can stick a chip/usb/cd/dvd into a machine and have it print for you. The only hard part was no red eye, they mention that in the requirements. Turns out to be not so easy if you're related to the devil.

I haven't mailed it yet so maybe they won't like it.

i did mine on my own camera/printer. I worked perfectly. Having said that, if you are concerned that the quality isn't good enough, why take that risk. Do what others suggest and buy that "piece of mind" for $7-$15...cheap insurance. Delays in PAL processing can be painful.:bangHead:

I went to Walmart, but forgot to take photo description from PAL application, so just ordered passport photo.
They charged me $20 and gave me some kind of "free" passport holder (which is useless, I already have 2 of them from before).

I just took a picture with my digital camera and then went to one of those photo printing machines in Shoppers Drug Mart or Walmart and printed off a sheet of wallet sized photos. I think it was under $1
