Look what followed me home today!pics corrected

It's a long story so I will keep it short.
Woke up this morning with two sick kids(minor colds, but bad enough that day home wouldn't take them). With my wife heading back to work after holidays it fell upon me to stay home with the girls. It took less than an hour for me to get restless, and I have had my eye on this thing for a couple months so if figured got the time, let's work out a deal. Loaded up the kids and an hour later we returned with this...

My new CZ 550 .375 H&H! It doesn't have the barrel band, but I fell for the wood the first time I seen it a couple months ago. The pics from my phone don't do it justice. Now, what scope if any?

Great looking rifle! Tell us more about it.

Tip for pics from Photobucket...

Directly in front of that first link you posted - "http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c10/Komax/utf-8BMzc1IGgmaCAxLmpwZw-1.jpg" - type
.

Or...

At your site on Photobucket, click on the pic you want, then on the left side you have four options for links. Choose the last one (for this particular forum) and click on it. It should automatically "copy" it. Then "paste" on your post here.

That'll bring that great pic forward to your post.

Thanks. I was using the wrong URL from photobucket, and trying to post from my blackberry. I think I got her now...:)

For the price range most CZs generally fall within, I'm always impressed as hell with the quality of wood and finish, even on their .22s.

Certainly when compared to a couple other famous brands I won't...*ahem*... mention.

Sorry. Had to edit the first post a couple times to get everything in there(not used to posting from a blackberry). Should be sorted out now. I do wish it had the barrel band, but I'll live with it. Thinking of a lower power VX 3 or possibly throwing something fixed power on it. I plan on using it mostly for elk/moose and bear if I ever actually go. As for African plains game, I have to wait a bit longer for business to get a bit better, but will get there someday I hope.
Thanks for looking!

soooo ###y. I like that gun a lot. If my other guns find out the way I've been looking at your gun, they might get jelous. I'd go with a smaller scope. What and where you will be hunting will determine what kind of scope (if any) you should get. Can't go wrong with a vx3 2-7ish. Ohhhh, I like it!:bigHug:

Very nice indeed. As for an appropriate scope - Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x42 should be about right.

I've put a 1.5x5 on a few 375s. It's perfect, and is plenty of scope for any hunting you will do with that rifle. I was hitting steel out to 500meters with my 375 topped with a 1.5x5 last Sat.

Being recently back from Zimbabwe using a scope that was not of my choosing, I'll tell you that if you're hunting in bushy country you want more bottom end than top end. The 3-9 I used would be great in open country, but in the jesse and mopane less power is better. I would go for a Leupold 1.5-5x if I thought I would be hunting in country where shots could be at rock-throwing distances. If it's only for open country then a 2.5-8x would be fine, but really, 5x is gobs of power for 300 yard shots on all but the smallest (like duikers/steenbok) game.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have decided to throw on the proverbial budget optics for the fall and work on a vx 3 for the spring. After speaking with P&D this morning I was convinced to try a redfield 2-7x32. They assured me over the phone it would hold up to the 375 and with a lifetime warranty, I wasn't to concerned. I was quite impressed at with the scope and was almost at the check out when one of the young guys started urging me to reconsider. His thoughts were the Burris ff2 2-7 would be better for my application. I couldn't really see much difference, and maybe I am a sucker but he talked me out of the extra zd bucks. So we will give it a go. I have concerns still about recoil, but the young fella told me he figured the burris had better glass and would also stand up to recoil. I have no experience with either but I hope I didn't make a mistake. This one will likely sit on my 45-70 gg next year so would like it to at least hold up that long. We will see.

I just ordered a Leupold Euro-30 for my 375. The 1.25-4x20 with a 30mm main tube and german #4 reticle should handle anything i intend to shoot with that rifle.

This one, actually.

I haven't actually seen one of those in person, but might be something to consider. I just mounted/bore sighted the burris I bought today. Not sure I like the way it has to sit on there, seems a touch high still. Will have to take her out and see.
I still love the rifle though!
