Need advice, I'm on a budget (Edit sept. 19)

Hi, I have to make a choice for a scope. I am new to the world of shooting, and it cost lot of $$$ when you start.

Scope will go on a rimfire riffle, Savage Mark II BTV.

Will be used at a shooting range between 25 and 200 yards.

I see all over Internet contradictory reviews for about any scopes.

I don't have the $$ for a Nikon/Leupold/Zeiss


I want something with magnification like 5-20/6-24 or around it, and objective approximately 40 to 50mm diameter.

The ones I was looking at are:

Barska 6.5-20x50 AO Varmint Rifle Scope

BSA Optics 6-18x40mm 6-24x50

Barska 4-16x44 Ridgeline Riflescope

Bushnell Banner 6-18x50

BSA Optics 6-18x40mm

I believe it when you say it man. Why is there so much hate against scopes made in Asia? Almost everything is made in Asia now. And since its gonna be for .22LR, recoil will not "destroy" the scope, am I right?


I was at shooting range for some infos yesterday, ppl were telling me to go with German scope or Leupold. Sure they are superior, but like I stated, I'm on a budget, no hunting, just shooting range with a .22 .


I don't need the best, just something that won't fall apart and that will not frustrate me to have spent on it. Maybe later I will go in higher class of scopes. But for now, I am new to shooting, and can't afford Leupold etc, and I wanna see if I will still shoot riffle in a year or so. :)

Stay away from the chesp Barska scopes for sure!

The tascos are not bad at all and can come with some good features for the money like mildots and turrets.

My choice however is the Bushnell Banner either the 50mm you suggested, or the 6-24 x 40mm which is what i have on my Stevens200 in 223! It is not bad at all for the 180 bucks I paid for it and the Bushnell warranty is great!
 
For .22 rimfire at those ranges you will need an Adjustable Objective (AO) scope for best accuracy. You may find that a fine crosshair reticle is best. I do.

A scope in the 4-12x or 4-16x will do the job. Check out Mueller, Bushnell, and as suggested above Vortex. I have no experience with any of those as I have Weaver 4-16x which may be discontinued. Suggest a search on the Rimfire forum of CGN and the Rimfire Central board.

To shoot .22LR at 200 meters, you need a scope that will have an elevation adjustment range to accommodate a lot of bullet drop, or a scope mount that can be adjusted for elevation. Or you can try to put a 1/32" or 1/16" shim under the scope at the rear mount, which is what I am going to do.

I tried to shoot 200 meters using a Bushnell 4-12 x 40AO on my CZ452 Varmint. I can see the target at 12X magnification, but even set to maximum elevation, I still cannot see where the bullet is hitting.

A scope with 12X is just right for me because I can barely hold the rifle steady enough, even with sandbags front and back. Higher mag will just emphasize my shakes. YMMV.

Thanks man, looks good, I made some research about Vortex, look like its great scopes for the price. Unfortunately, in the magnification range that I want, they sell for around 300$, but I'll remember them for next riffle if I have some more money to put on it.

Was looking now at 2 Bushnell Banner

To shoot only at targets from 25 to 200 yards, no hunting, from you guys experience, witch one should I do with? Cost have nothing do do between these 2 model, the difference is 10$.

I just receive my new BSA 8-32x44 deerhunter, went to the range yesterday and i was really impressed for the money , sure its a bit foggy at full zoom , the turret are big and work good but the most important it keep the zero .

Made 3 10 group shot at 100 yards and was comming back to 50 yards between each ( 40 clicks of adjustment up and down 3 times ) and the zero came back perfectly . So for 100 bucks its really good imao.

By the way it sit on a savage mark ii fv , 5 group shot @25y=1 hole @50y=1/4inch and about 4 inch @100y but i only have a bipod with federal gold medal (711b)
