Not that I have the money right now, I am thinking of getting an M4 for my next gun. I just want your normal m4 carbine rifle, but I want one of the new kind of handguards that have 4 different rails going around them. This in part because I just think those handguards look better and also because it allows me to add different grips and other stuff if I want to. My question is what would the best way to go about getting this? Should I buy a complete one and than just put my own handguard on it? Or should I build my own rifle completely? Or something esle ...

Marstar seems to have some great prices for handguards and accesories - they have a quad rail for around $100 - if I were you I would buy the Norinco M4 from them and purchase the quad rail at the same time.

Here is the link for all the AR15 accessories Marstar offers:

If it's our first carbine than I might suggest you buy one already put together. Get used to firing the crap out of it every chance you get, than add bits and pieces to it gradually as you gain experience. Go for a flattop receiver so you can add whatever optics or back up sight you want. Carbines can be bought with the handguard style rail system already installed, or you can pick up an inexpensive one for 100 bucks no problem and put a front grip on. I have ordered quite a bit of stuff from Questar International and Wolverine, they are both great to deal with and can help you with questions.

ya norincos are good, but ammo is hard to come by. not supposed to use .308 in them.
plus the 7.62x39 for the cz. is dirt cheap.
any other thoughts.

If you don't want the AR platform I would go with the CZ858 - I have one of these and in 1500+ rounds I have never had any stoppages. The gun is fun to shoot, non-restricted, and very moddable.

I clean the gun when I get home with windex and then hoppes. I oil it after that and I have never had any rust whatsoever.

I have heard that the mini14/30 rifles are not as accurate as they could be. If cheap ammo is your focus, get the CZ.

I really don't want a chinese copy; I want the real thing.

Stag. Arms East is a sponsor of the site. Other than mounting extra stuff, the quad rail if you buy the right one will also free float the barrel which generally helps give better accuracy. Some of the cheap aftermarket ones won't be free floating. I have a Stag 2T which I really like. I wouldn't hesitate to buy just the normal Stag either with the regular none quad rail. The prices are reasonable for the quality you get.

There are other good brands out there too, but the prices tend to go up very quickly. Lots of options out there, depending on your budget.

Lots of people seem to like the Chinese copy. I'm not a big fan of the Chinese copied rifles. I'd rather pay a bit more and stay North American unless of course I was buying an actual Chinese only rifle (T-97 for example).

First Dustin, I'd do a lot of research on this site and THEN I'd ask specific questions. There are so many options out there that it would be unfair to tell you to buy this AR or that one. As you do you research maybe your taste will change or you'll find out about stuff you didn't think of. There is big money involved, so I'd make sure I get what I really want.

While you can't get a "real" M4 (i.e. no full auto) here's a shortcut to the next best legal thing, and a damn great AR: www.armseast.com

Stag 2T. Great piece of machinery. You'll love it.

Full auto, not likely LOL

Pretty much.
An argument could be made that there is only one "real thing" which is the original Stoner.
By that definition even Stags and Noveskes are just knockoffs.
Some knockoffs being better than others for various reasons.

I would say go with the Norinco, its the best priced knockoff.
