I think the gesture sucks. I as a member do not want a bunch of non membered hunters who have not taking the safety course at the club shooting up a storm. It is just unsafe. I have in the past brought a hunter as a guest to sight in his hunting rig and I swore I would not do that again. Bad idea

So your poor judgement in a shooting partner makes all hunters unsafe? Just what the anti's want to here.

No wonder the shooting sports are declining, Maybe try associating with safer more responsible individuals.

By allowing people to come shoot at the club we are guaranteeing they have a safe place to sight in. The benefit is threefold, we keep them from sighting in in a woodlot or other place where conditions are not as safe thus preventing any possible accidents or bad press, with a good range set up they can try there rifles out and ensure they are well sighted and will be a ble to kill cleanly preventing wounded animals and more bad press and finally (I doubt you will find this positive,danny45) some of them may join the club.

Our local club used to have a free sight in day,but to my knowledge,it has long been discontinued. At this time of year, the range is busy enough with members, and it is after all, members that pay the bills. No member should have to wait in line, while non members that contribute nothing to the club, shoot for free. That being said, many members still sign in guests according to the club rules.

This event will be supervised and not a free for all as someone may have sugested.
Proper line conduct and rules will be applied at all times.
Its a good gesture and PR with the surrounding community
and club might get a few memberships from it.

PS.
please bring your own stapler and paper targets.
As well as proper eye and ear protection.

I have no problem in having these guys join our club because they will have take the same safety class that I took to become a member. At my previous clubs in Quebec it was crazy come September because of all the rookies had no clue how to behave on the line. As long as there is a range officer with a firm hand on this day, then I have no issues with anyone. I have been hunting and shooting with the same four guys for 10 years now, but the person who asked if he can come to the club and sight in his hunting rifle was a family friend and not my regular gang who I trust with my life.

Three (3) ROs will be on site to assist, issuing commands, and taking care of the safety. But that is all that EOHC will provide beside facilities. As mentioned already bring your own shooting accessories.

This is one day only event, and members have 364 days of range usage available to them.

Actually, this is just one possible way how to contribute to the community, how to give something back, and develop positive relationship. Remember hunting is "questionable" activity.:bsFlag:

Now is the time we need get others to join our ranks vs.worrying about using up range time. We have a huge battle ahead as gun owners when the Liberals get in power. Hand guns and all semi-autos are on the block, the more gun friendly people the better. I would be happy to give up my paid range time during the fall for new shooters, I have my rifles sighted in and ready for hunting months in advance.

I have volunteered at previous sight in events at EOHC and at no time was anyone unsafe. As far as paying members complaining the only ones that show up at scheduled events and whine are the same ones that never pick up a hammer or a garbage bag when it comes to the range. More often than not they are the same ones that shoot once a month and are surprised when they are told to stop shooting the range floor or to pick up their s**t. All the rest just relax and are happy to get some good PR at the least and some new blood at the best. I'll likely be there to help with the monkey work of target patching and sight adjusting.

I think it's a great idea, but what do I know?

I'm the guy, who along with SKScanuck and Sticker, bought the materials, and then repaired the stands at 100 yds and 200 yds that the guests (and then other members) are going to shoot up. We paid for the materials out of funds we collected in a three times yearly Milshoot we organize, therefore costing the club nothing. Our Milshoots have brought in several members to boot, and this event will no doubt do the same, probably teach some safety rules and generally be good for the club.

I have earned my opinion. You guys who don't like it - any chance I'd find your names in the Work Log?

Good job Andy!! We need more people like you and your buddies vs some of the negative selfish posters we have here on this thread.

Cheers!!

Danny a couple things to look at here.

1. This is done so it can be in a controlled environment.
EOHC has had troubles in the past with non members coming and sighing in thinking that the range was a public range. When this happened no one was their to correct them, and no one was their to control the line.

2. Yes you are a paying member of the club. Yes membership is what allows the club to run. So does events such as this. It is not a free event. Also how do you think we as a club get new members?

3. If you have an issue with how EOHC runs something please feel free to attend the AGM and voice your concern.

During the time of the site in the other ranges will be usable by members and their invited guests.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further information.

Fremen

PS

If you are concerned about the safety of the event you may want to contact the person running it to see if they need anymore volunteers to run the day. An easy way to get the four hours of volunteer work your membership requires

Hey Fremen
I must have been misunderstood, but I am O.k with having hunters sight in their firearms in a controlled environment. I just worry about safety because of bad experiences at other clubs in Quebec even with a R.O on site. I am not interested if there is a fee or not but I do feel safety is the game here. As for other comments that I give fuel to the anti"s that is B.S.I have been pro hunting and promoting the sport for the last 32 years and the last thing I will do is fuel the anti hunting movement. That was insulting.
Cheers everyone
Danny
