I've got a Norinco M1911 coming (eventually, if the Ontario CFO's decide to get their thumbs un-stuck). I've already got a small supply of .45 ACP ammunition.

I'm already looking at getting a second handgun. :D

So my question is - should I get a Glock 21 or a Glock 17?

If I get the Glock 21 I've already got ammunition in the same caliber. K.I.S.S.

But I'm considering the Glock 17 (3rd Gen, or the 3.5 RTF) because 9mm ammunition is cheaper than .45 ACP, and reloading's not an option for me right now.

So - one caliber for simplicity, or two calibers because 9mm ammo's cheaper?

It is not all about cheaper, if you are after a Glock, get a 17, one more caliber to boot, best of whole world. Get a gen 3.5 because the gen 4 got mixed reviews, some like it but many hate it.

Get a G17 in 9mm if you are already getting a 1911 in .45ACP

NAA.

17 !!! .... there is absolutely no point having your first two handguns in the same and expensive calibre, might even suggest getting a .22 kit for one or the other.

i was in the situtation a month ago and went the glock 17 way
im very happy with my choice

not too expensive to feed
eats up any ammo you throw at it
and i find it comfortable

I've had a 1911 in the past and sold it in favor of my Glock 17! Cheaper to feed and it's a rock that will last forever! Plus all the paper and steel that I've shot with it never knew the difference between 9mm or 45 ACP! They all came home with holes in them! Plus I'm a huge fan of the Glock safe action trigger. Just my opinion.

Although there is nothing wrong with a G21 (owned one, liked it but sold it to raise funds for something else) I voted for a G17. Having a different pistol calibre to shoot keeps the hobby interesting and it's also nice to have the option to be able to shoot a "cheaper" calibre in between pay cheques....;)

You sound like the guy who always supports Norton, Frazier, or Foreman in an Ali vs. Tyson argument... The Linux guy in a Mac vs. PC argument... A Smith & Wesson guy in a Glock vs. 1911 argument. :D

Oh, definitely... In a two horse race, the third beast is usually the better one! And, literally, yes: my M&P rocks!

But don't you DARE call me a linux guy - Them's fightin' words!

Glock 21 is one of my all time fav's. But I got a 17 for cheap so I got that instead. Someone loads me .45's but doesn't have 9mm dies so it costs me 10x more to shoot my 9mm suprisingly. So in your case(since you don't reload) i voted 9mm so you can score cheaper ammo when your broke.

had a gen 3 hated it, not a glock fan at all, but will comment anyhow. it makes a lot more sense for you to get the 17 than the 21. lighter recoil in a polymer pistol, more choice of ammo, easier to get much cheaper to buy, you will not prefer your 21 over your 1911....so going backwards, but you will enjoy the 9mm easier to handle funner to shoot, and if the going gets tough it will be easier to sell than the 21. Just a few neutral thoughts
