Will you hunt Grouse with .22LR

Ever tried Grouse in ON with .22 LR.

It can get you started when Deer Season coming to Close.

Not in Ontario(never made it out there for a hunting season), but "Yes" in BC.

Lol what else you gonna use? A 12 guage at 10 metres will shred them up pretty good! Even a 20 guage is overkill at close distances, and I cant remember the last time I saw a grouse that didnt let you get within 15m. A 410 would be an option but i find them useless for much else so Im not about to buy one.

Around here I do. Unless Ontario grouse are immune to .22 bullets I can't see it being any different.

yup where i hunt that all i use. .22lr or .22mag and if there in a tree i give the tree a kick and they will land.

I also use 12 gauge. 2 3/4" shell size, 7 1/2 shot size. Past 2 I shot this way I took the head right off them.

yes I do. Got the wife in it that way too. Plus a 410 I have a couple.

and if they're treed, put a squirrel snare on the end of the stick and pull them closer so you can smack them properly. I've eaten plenty of "lead free" grouse.

For the less adventuresome, a .22 or .410 head shot doesn't mess with the tasty bits.

Looks like vote is for .22, Well that makes all the sense.
I have seen guys using 12 guage and then Complaining about Lead stuck between tooth.LOL.

When I hunt grouse with a buddy usually one of us will carry a .22 for long shots if they're stationary and sunning themselves. Otherwise its wingshooting with a 12 guage O/A or S/S. using 71/2 lead shot.

Last couple I shot was with a .12 guage with an xtra full turkey choke and 7 1/2's. Took the head off of two at close range and was able to knock down a third on the wing. Had to let him get out to 40 yds before I shot though.

I must say im a little confused by this. So u are in a township that progibits rifle shooting? Because for small game there is no restrictions in the Ontario hunting regs!

Might be an idea for sprucies when I turn 90 & hunt from a atv/wheelchair.

Ruffies are shotgun all the way though. The Whrrrrrrr! of the wings, the pow, pow, of the shottie, the punch/ punch in the shoulder, the bird rising then (hopefully) falling through a kaleidoscope of colored foliage amidst a filtered setting sun - MAKES YOU FEEL ALIVE!

Plinking a sitting duck spruce grouse must be a 'boot vanilla' experience in comparison.
