Picked this up today from a local hunter...he bought it from a friend of his father's who had it all its life. Has below 100 rounds through it.

1984 Winchester Model 70 in .270 Win. Apart from a couple small dings in the stock it looks in great shape - rifling is perfect in it. It ain't the prestigious pre-64...far from it, but after a limbsaver is put on there I think it'll make a great beater for deer hunting. Opinions...

Personally, after Winchester reintroduced the CRF rifles in RH and LH actions made on new, modern machines the pre'64s lost a lot of value to me. You can buy a new CRF Model 70 and rebarrel it to a premium grade barrel for the cost of an old used pre'64.

My plan is to put a decent scope ont here FFII, 3200 - something in the 200 range and leave at the camp as a good general use beater. Then again, I've been sufficiently surprised by some rifles I've bought used that I end up hoarding them - got a Savage 110c j a couple years ago for $200 that shot .5 groups with Winchester SuperX - I don't know if this will one copy that feat, but I figured for $400 in the condition it's in, what the heck...plus that short barrel makes for a fine brush gun.

Do you really need a limbsaver on a 270?

No...but I like buying add-ons...it's a sickness.:redface::D

I actuallly do have a torn rotator and calcification in my right shoulder, but it doesn't stop me from burning cases of 3.5 12gauge all goose season, so I don't really NEED it on a 270...then again, with 3 other 270's, I didn't really NEED this M70 - lol.
