Im having a problem with my Rem 7600 - I've been trying to sight it in just using the open sights, but am having trouble. I've got the rear sight lowered as far as it can go, but I still find it really uncomfortable to line it and the front sight up. I have to crane my neck at an unnatural angle just to begin to sight it correctly.

Im a tall guy with long arms, so that might be a factor. Im also finding that even that way, the sights dont shoot straight.

Any help would be appreciated

Mike

Its not the sights, its the monte carlo stock. Not sure why they ever went to it from the straight comb of the early 80's. If you are handy at all with wood, you could rasp the comb down to where it should be, then sand smooth and oil finish it.

The way the stock is now, its meant for use with a scope...

Blargon said it. I had the same problem on my Savage euro classic in 30-06. I scoped it anyways, but you would think that on one of the only models with iron sights, they would make a stock to work with it.

I found that I got punched in the cheek when I was using the iron sights. I mounted a scope and the problem fixed itself.

Are you sure that you are shooting with the correct eye? That is, if you are a right handed person, and shooting the rifle right handed, that you are using the right eye? There are some people that are left eye dominant and I have seen some try to line up the iron sights by 'craning their neck way over', to use their left eye.
If that is not the case, then it really is that the stock was probably designed for scope use and it is hard to get low enough to use the iron sights easily.
But, what do you mean when you say the sights don't shoot straight?

I found the EXACT same thing. The only unscoped rifle to ever give me a black eye was my 7600. The 7600 as it is now is meant for a scope.

Both my 7600s are special orders from the last two years and are "Non-Monte Carlo Stock" type like the older ones were - see on the box end pic. Mine both work fine with the irons and the scope. On the other hand my M750 is Monte carlo and punches my cheek bone using the irons and it's even been shaved down a bit. With the scope, as stated above, the problem goes away.
