Another .260 Rem build! **Disapointing range report**

Have u contacted Rick at ATRS and spoke to him about your issues. This thread is long enough I am sure he has read it.

Before I'd tear it apart, try normal H4831 and H870 powders, on maybe more than one or two range trips.

just a suggestion.....

I have no intention of tearing anything apart and neither Ted or Rick have been contacted yet. I still have lots of things to test and try before I give up and blame the gun.

Yep, 100yds. Forgot the base for the tripod, so no velocity. No pressure signs. COAL was 2.870", not sure how far off the land, I was saving seating depth for fine tuning.

I got a pound of RL17 today. Some guys on Snipershide are having good results with that powder. One more thing to try.

dude seating death is very important..i would do this at the same time as everything else...and as others have mentioned the powder speed thing....if you have a big flame blasting out of the barrel then it is time to go with a faster powder..you should be talkin with the builder asap..your group so far is no better than a SKS with iron sights...it`s bad.....

A wise plan (not tearing it apart). YES I have been watching this thread with great interest.
I figured I would wait until all the internet experts like guboy and green"*****"pasture expounded how they would cure the problem. I always enjoy a good laugh.

Not being there makes the real problem pure speculation, it is hard to diagnose over the net as to EXACTLY what the issue is.

I think Bill has suggested the best plan, clean it, shoot it again. Personally I would put some 5 shot groups down range and try some different seating depths with the same load, preferably the load that looked best from your ladder test.
I have found 4831SC seems to perform well in the 260s with heavy bullets like the 142s.
Another suggestion, shoot it well fouled as well, some barrels require being fairly fouled to shot well. I do not think that this is the case with 1 of Teds barrels but it is fairly common with many factory barrels, yup I am guessing too.

Rest assured the work is 100% covered by our warranty until the gun IS "torn apart" by anyone.

I would say this thread has been very polite and cannot think of a single post including those by GB and GP that offered anything negative...Its a great looking rig and I am certain it will shoot as expected soon....:)

I guess this guy good a messing up name from Gunboy to Guboy, maybe I just call him #### or dickhead instead of Rick, Alberta Tactical become Alberta Testicle, 260rem become 270win. What ever make him happy.

I have to agree.......it took one post to start the #### flinging and the 2 posters mentioned had not done
any of the flinging until then. Only a matter of time until it hits
the locked stage so I might as well put a IBTL here... :jerkit:

Like I said, still lots of testing to do. IF it looks like the rifle is the issue I'll be in touch with Rick. Rick confirmed what I suspected all along (and had previously mentionned to me), I'll be taken care off.

my 2 cents

have a close look at the stress in the bedding using a dial indicator. stresses in the action bedding can cause fliers as i also shhot 260 and after relieving stress, groups tightend right up, and now shoots all loads better and my pet load excellent.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but it is real easy to damage the crown. I saw this last year on a practically new gun. The guy just got a little careless when cleaning. The smith even examined it and thought it was fine but eventually gave up and just recrowned it....problem solved...
Also maybe loose mounting? bad scope maybe? lots of stuff it could be....
Anyways, I am sure Rick will help out...

Also if the roles were reversed and you were the gunsmith and Rick the customer I am sure you would have really appreciated it if he came to you first with the problem instead of posting it on the net. After all it probably isn't even related to the work done but rather a component problem(scope, barrel, crown, reloading dies, or technique etc etc).....

Sometime you got to ask youself, if you can really shoot, what I mean is How much Experience have you got, How long have you been shooting, also reloading experience. don't mean to be insulting you in anyway.
