just recived a sks 1949 from westrifle with the barrel sticking out of the box with the muzzel of the rifle scraped up i also had the same problem about a year ago when i purchased a pu91/30 sniper rifle from frontier firearms the barrel was sticking out of the box actually it wasent even a box it was roled in coragated cardboard. I mean come on a gun that cost 800 plus taxes and shiping to be mailed in such poor packageing is not acceptable. I am sure i am not the only one to have experinced this and it totally ticks me off.If its packaged properly it has a 100% chance off not being damaged by canada post.Marstar packs theres in a plastic carrying case never never hade a damaged package from them because it was packaged well.Just thought i would bring it up to see if its a common problem and if anyone else as experinced the same thing.

I bought a SKS from Westrifle last spring. It was packaged better than quite a few I've gotten from other dealers. At least it was a real box. On another point,I had my first rifle damaged by CP last month. It was well packaged,but they somehow bent it enough to break the stock into three pieces at the pistol grip.

For awhile everything I had coming from the west had a tennis ball sized hole in it. Looked a lot like someone was getting kinda nosey with the shipments.

that was the case with my sks a hole right in the end of the box as if someone was looking in the package and your right it was a real box at least rather than roaled cardboard

I like these instructions of the levergun.com site:

"Packaging must be of sufficient quality and strength to tolerate necessary handling and inevitable mishandling; you must seal box sufficiently to keep it closed – use plenty of plastic "boxing" tape. I recommend the following approach, see note at end of this section:

If necessary, purchase a lightweight and affordable hard gun case, such as the Gun Guard, or similar type (you need such a single-gun case and a cardboard container in which that single, single-gun case was shipped);

Securely tape an address label (with your "From" address and the above noted "To" address) to gun;

Insert additional foam rubber or bubble-wrap into case, as necessary, so that gun is centered within case and is positively prevented from moving around inside case – with sufficient added foam rubber or bubble-wrap, case will be rather difficult to close and latch;

Securely tape an address label (with your "From" address and the above noted "To" address included) to outside of gun case;

Insert cased gun into box in which gun case was shipped, add Styrofoam "peanuts" or other similar material to prevent gun case from moving inside cardboard box (as necessary, completely mark out all exterior markings on box, using a black permanent marker);

Leave end of box open.

Take boxing tape and a "Sharpie" style permanent marker with you to Post Office;

Either label a clear area of largest side of box with your proper return "From" address and the above noted shipping "To" address (preferable method) or securely tape an address label to correct area of outside of gun case box (run tape wraps fully around box, as necessary, to completely cover address label);

After purchasing proper postage stamp for entire package (which will include cased gun, shipping box and a manila envelope containing completed order from and a Postal Money Order), apply postage to upper right-hand corner of addressed side of box;

Obtain Postal Money Order in correct total amount to cover costs of all services ordered plus cost of return shipping and insurance; I suggest a minimum of $750 insurance (return shipping and insurance will be significantly greater than cost of shipping & insurance for shipping to Shooters World, you can get this amount by adding the value of the money order to $750 and asking the postal worker for the cost of that much insurance and shipping on the same package);

Insert completed Money Order with your completed order form into a manila envelope, seal this envelope and write M.L. McPherson on outside;

Insert this sealed envelope into open end of box;

Securely seal box using boxing tape;

Apply several layers of tape over each end of box in each direction, run tape ends about 4 inches down sides of box end;

Apply tape wraps around box, near each end (to lock tape across ends of box);

Apply tape wraps at center and 1/4th points around length of box;

Apply tape wraps in any other area of potential weakness;

Mark box "fragile" and post.

If you cannot ship the gun packaged as described above, include an additional $50 to total costs to cover my time and costs required to properly package it for safe return posting."

It just makes sense to use a plastic gun case from walmart or canadian tire when shipping. I've never had a problem with gun cases, but have with cardboard.

If you're finding tennis ball sized holes in your packages, let CP know about it. Maybe one of their employees are tampering with parcels and CP won't know to catch them unless they're made aware of it.

That's great if the buyer will pay the extra $$$ for one. But many will not. I've had some even say don't insure it,cheaper that way. Needless to say,I never sold to them.

Thank you for noticing, yes we ship a high percentage of our rifles in our locking, ABS hard cases.... EXACTLY for the reasons you mention, Canada Post run all parcels through their compactors and do their very best to destroy everything.

Once we switched to hards cases we reduced our damage claims by 95%....

Johnone I paid ten dollars for my packages. Where do you buy yours PM me how much.

gordonlbyrne I am sorry that this happened to your rifle. Did you contact CP by any chance. May be really someone tried to look inside the box. I have all of mine fully insured for this damages.

Regards,

i dont know if someone was looking in the box but the barrel of the gun was sticking out of the box when i recived it weather it was canada post or poor packageing i dont know maybe it was a little of both all i am saying is the customer of a 500 plus rifle should not recive it with the barrel sticking out of the box . I am sure most on this forum would agree with me
