New Barrel Breakin

Do some searching on the web but I think I read-
10 shots, clean between each
3 shots, clean - do this 3 times
5 shots, clean - do this 5 times
done

I'm sure the debate will be whether it needs breaking in at all.

You will find as many opinions on this as people you ask. Even the fanatical precision guys can't seem to agree on a technique or if it makes any measurable difference.

The one thing that is agreed upon is that cleaning with shoddy equipment and/or bad technique will do more damage to a barrel than all the shooting in the world. Buy good equipment and use it carefully. Bore guides are very highly recommended as well.

Right on Mark...
Good post. ;)

I shoot until it looks dirty or groups go to hell. And the older I get the less I check on the first and the less I blame the gun on the second. Most of those cleaning products are just there to make people money. And ALL those friggin magazine articles about 'break in' are there to fill pages. Shoot the damn thing.
My two cents.

Good question. I guess the obvious was to ask them. As for cleaning I like using a bore snake, can't hurt it that way.

Bore snakes are perhaps the worst cleaning tool ever invented. They carry grit and abrasive bits and will chew your barrel up. Ask any precision shooter what they think of bore snakes.
