GSG Vs. Chiappa 1911-22 .22LR

I've put about 500 through mine now over two sessions, ammo has been a mix of Win Super X, Win Wildcat, Remington Thunderbolt, some real old Imperial hi-velocity plated .22 lr [the ammo that came in the little clear plastic containers with the sliding top] and brand new American Eagle hi-velocity 40 grain lead.

Mine shoots a tad high with the front site it came installed on it. I found once I adjusted my sight picture to compensate for the low front site it was pretty accurate. Enough so to chase golf balls around the back of the 25 yard [approved shooting] range I was at yesterday afternoon. I plan on installing the higher front site that came in the packaging for next time out, though.

I just have the magazine that came with my pistol. Awaiting spare mags to arrive at my dealer. I have not had the slide locking issue on the mag follower that others describe above. I did shoot a couple mags thru my pistols that came from another GSG 1911 though without any issues.

As a ~ 30 year 1911 guy I give this pistol two thumbs up! I am very happy with my GSG 1911. So much so I am considering picking up a second one.

Mine seems to prefer high-velocity rounds, I'm using Remington plated RN 40grain, $28/box at LeBaron. Runs cleaner than Federal Target lead RN I used before, with less FTFs - I do get some occasionally - and cheaper, too.

I did try the higher sight last week, and it made it worse because the POI went South when I aimed bulls-eye. I went back to medium-size front, 6 o'clock aim - I need to get used to it, my other guns are bulls-eye sighted. I did all the adjustments while shooting from bench-rest - then the instructor who borrowed my GSG made same-size groups freehand as I did off the rest. I needed a few beers after that.

i emailed gsg today about the slide stop problem and they told me that the mag follower needs to be replace and will send me a new one. Great customer support from GSG, i got a response in less than an hour.

after talking with GSG i had a idea of what the problem was and took a shot at fixing it myself, going to get a new follower so no big deal if i messed this one up.

here's how i fixed the follower

the problem was the follower wasnt placing the slide in the correct position to line up with the slide stop and also not putting enough pressure on the slide stop. i used some devcon epoxy to add some length to the parts of the follower that contact the slide stop and slide. i had to play with the length a little bit but making them as long as possible but still able to put follower back in the mag did it. everything works perfect now the slide stop catches every time and you can drop the mag after the last shot. hope it holds up at the range though.
