If I gave a Norinco 1911 to somebody like Gunnar how close could I get to a Gold Cup???? Thanks Gents for your opinions!!!!!

P.S. I had a series 70 Gold Cup at one time, and like the idiot I am .....I sold it!!! LOL LOL and more LOL

Well, the answer to that question really depends on how much money you are willing to spend. ;) A competent gunsmith that is experienced with the 1911 platform could easily enough turn a box-stock Norinco into a gun that is the equal of (or even superior to) a Gold Cup. But it's going to cost you plenty in parts, labour and refinishing... But it certainly can be done.

There is a world of difference just on the outside finish, never mind the internals, or more important, quality of steel.

Kidding right??? By the time you're done you may as well buy two gold cups......

I own both the norc tuned dont even come close to my colt

A tuned Norc and a customized Norc are not even close to the same thing. The receiver and slide on a Norinco are very well suited to a custom build. Like any full custom build, the gun will require refinishing once completed. As I stated, a competent smith can turn a Norinco into whatever you want to make it if you are willing to pay. And a full custom 1911 (even one built on a Norinco frame) can be a superior gun to any factory Colt.

A colt gold cup is not the equivalent of a gallardo.

It is more like comparing a camaro to a corvette. The corvette should be able to outrun the camaro under all conditions, but is it worlds different than a customized norc? Christ no.

The only reason anyone would compare a CGC to a lamborghini is that there aren't a lot of REALLY high-end 1911s in this country, so people here often think a gold cup or a kimber or an STI is a top-notch 1911.

Gold Cups are nice match-grade 1911s. They aren't unobtanium super-pistols. Depending on how much you spend, a Norinco could be built that would greatly exceed a gold cup. A few people here will have seen Wilson Combat customs that were built on Norincos...well, those are a hell of a lot nicer than a Gold Cup. Therefore a great 1911 smith could definitely make a better pistol out of a Norinco than a factory gold cup would ever be.

It would probably cost a lot more than the CGC by that point, though. So the real question is, "how do you want to allocate your funds?"

Frame and slide are sloppy same with the bushing I have had to fix all 4 norc I have owned the last one I got was total crap needed more work then I had time to spend so I hacked the mainspring and tuned it for .22

save the hassle and get a colt if you want a great shooter out of the box by the time you spend on parts and tuneing your about even i.m.p

He is talking tuned not a complete rebuild...... But I 100% agree with deep pockets comes a nice norinco thats for sure

Maybe you have information I don't...here is what I saw:

I don't see any mention of tuning vs. customization vs. anything else, so unless you have more info than the rest of us I am not sure how you came to this conclusion.

Yea maybe I should read before I speak I will take my slap like a man :(

I was just guessing he ment tuned sorry my bad

All true, but the simple answer to his question is still: yes, a competent smith could turn a Norinco into a gun that rivals a Gold Cup. ;) The devil is in the details...

I wish I had endless funds to custom a few more 1911`s .. I seen a fellow on here with a really nice norc its two tone with red ruby grips its badass i.m.o

Agree....... With the funds any thing can be done. I thought he ment just tuned my bad sorry for my mistake :(

If I was to pick a basis for a custom build or tuning, or whatever, I'd look at a bone stock Colt - they come up here in the EE every so often for fairly (read 'relatively') cheap.
