Got my brand new GSG 1911 on friday from Blue Line activities. My immediate impression was that this is a very nice pistol for the price. Its quite heavy and feels solid. I proceded to shoot over a thousand rounds of CCI mimimags, stingers, remington yellow jacket, american eagle, winchester wild cat, remington cyclone and a few other kinds i can remember at the moment. There was not a single failure of any kind. NOT ONE. All the while my step dad was shooting his more expensive (by a few hundred dollars) Sig misquito, which jammed litterally a minimum of 3-5 times per magazine with cheap shells and down to 1-2 times with stingers or mini mags. It was a nice feeling. That is until the pistol went bang for the last time. I loaded a mag with stingers and fired the first shot. It blew apart my barrel bushing and sent the plunger spring flying down range never to be found again. My problem was identicle to what happened to this guy --> http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=283499 . After looking at the barrel bushing it was obvious why it broke, Its made of what looks like the same cheat pot metal that made in china toy cars are manufactured from. Called blue line and they said they will repair or replace it now problem! Hows that for customer service! After reading the american thread it seems there is a replacement bushing made out of steel. Just thought you fellow Canadian GSG 1911 owners should be aware this is apparently a common problem and there is a fix. Not sure if all of the recently imported pistols have the old barrel bushing or the new one..... oh and also my recoil buffer (think thats what its called) Is serverly deformed and caused the slide to be a little sticky..hopefully theres a fix for that too.

Glad you're enjoying your pistol, I've been having great fun with mine.

I had the same problem, barrel bushing broke after 2200 rounds. I emailed GSG, they haven't responded so I'll drop Blueline an email.

The other problem with the gun is the mag follower doesn't push hard enough on the slide catch/release, so it doesn't always catch on the release, it'll catch on the mag follower only.

There is a replacement follower that is supposed to be available.

All in all though, the pistol is great, lots of fun.

gutinator- the replacement that you are going to get is it going to be the same thing, made out of pot metal or a steel one? keep an eye on the ambi safety and slide release they are made out of the same cheap metal.

blueline- would it be possible for you to find out which serial numbers have the updated parts and which need it?

I'm interested in the GSG 1911 and like to read a lot on any particular firearm before purchasing.

Did the same before purchasing my sig mosquito. Let your step Dad know there are a tonne of fixes on youtube. Mine however never needed any of these fixes I just kept the slide back while it is in the safe. I think the spring was too strong for the 22lr. I have put about 3000 rnds thru it and have had no problems since the first 50 rnds. I shoot the federal 525 bulk stuff or whatever I have lying around. I think last weekend I put 500rnds of american eagle thru it with no issues. However I do keep it squeaky clean in between range outings.

All in all the GSG is one sweet pistol. Other than the barrel bushing the gun functioned flawlessly and was quite accurate (shot a little high and to the right) after i replaced the front sight and realigned the rear it was right on the money. Im just surprised GSG cheaped out on such an important part (barrel bushing) in the first place, but as long as there is a new one made out of a stronger metal ill be 100% satisfied with the gun. However if the bushing is replaced with another one made of the same cast pot metal im certain its only a matter of time before it will break again.

Thanks for posting your issue and the link to the same thing as reported on the 1911Forum.

I wonder if the bushing failure had anything to do with the use of the hyper velocity .22lr ammo?

In any case I plan to change out the stock barrel bushing on mine for a steel factory Colt one tomorrow anyway. I've put ~ 500 rounds thru mine, a mix of Win Wildcat, Win Super X, Rem Thunderbolt, American Eagle and even some old Imperial hi velocity plated, with no issues thus far. I noticed my pistol was shooting high and to the right with the sites as issued. I plan on installing the higher front site and adjusting the rear site as well.

No problem NAA! I didnt want to scare anyone off from buying the gun, just though you guys should be aware. Do you think a factory colt or clone steel bushing will fit around the .22lr barrel or will it be too large? Wouldnt a .45 barrel have alot larger outside diameter thus the .45 bushing would also be larger? If it does work do you know where to get one?

I just checked mine, and given as it's not magnetic, I'm just going to assume I'll likely have the same problem in time, so could I just buy a steel barrel bushing, I tried the GSG one on my Para 45 GI Expert, and it fits, are 1911 bushings a standard size item, can I just order one, or does it need to be fitted?

To be fair.. I have a GSG 1911... and its at 8,000 round count already.. not 1 single problem beside ammo not fireing :p and thats bad primmers..

also I looked it over.. fireing pin fine.. bushing fine buffer fine.. barrel fine ect..

Mine was high right till I changed to windchester target dx the ferderal bulk pack was high.. and to make it drop I just put the target further out ;)

Barrel bushing.....

Apparently, the barrel bushing is one of the parts that is complatible with any standard 1911, so a factory steel Colt one should work fine.

Mine shoots slightly high and to the slightly to the right with the stock sites as the pistol came. However, the pistol was very accurate. So, with just a slight adjustment of "hold" to compensate I was able to chase golf balls around the back of the 25 yard range last time out with any brand of ammo I had on hand. However, I am going to change out the front site for the higher one that came with it and also adjust the rear site so that the sites will be bang on with the ammo for next time out.

I field stripped & gave my GSG 1911 a good cleaning today. I figured it was time after ~ 500 rounds thru it. Surprisingly, it wasn't as dirty inside as I thought it would be. No sign of wear on any parts. Even the little polymer bushing on the end of the recoil spring guide didn't look any worse for wear. Everything cleaned up nicely and when I reassembled it I put in a steel factory Colt barrel bushing in place of the stock one that came with it. I also changed out the front site for the higher one and adjusted the rear site. I should be right on the money now. Will report back after the next range session.

How much, if any, fitting was required to get the Colt bushing in?

Im glad this little gun is getting such great reviews, I think its time to pick one up for myself. Too bad they dont make a commander model, that would be awesome!
