Shooting a Magpie

Kill all you can. The guys that are picking on you must not know what a magpie is. They probably shoot crows and gophers for sport and don't eat them.

X2 I have a personal vendetta against squirrels and starlings. If you stab a 22LR HP in the nose with a tiny Phillips (star) screwdriver they make a real nice mess of a small vermin target, they also don't ricochet nearly as much since the bullet obliterates its self.

We, as hunters and shooters, need to concentrate on using a keen sense of what is appropriate when relating stories on any public forum.

You, as a redneck, need to keep stupid comments like this to yourself and not post them here.

Easy guys. Can we agree that vermin hunting has its place but things like "magic exploding squirrels" on You-tube can be depremental to us (no matter how amusing)
Might I add though that there are none to many Granola crunchers on CGN.

You people all ##### and complain about what a "poor shot" I took. You wern't there and don't know all the facts.

As one of the previous posters said, they don't stay still long and I know that. When I took aim it was very quick while I was standing up and breathing hard thus the crosshairs were floating all around the place on the target. I was surprised I hit it. Many of you act like every shot you take is perfect and never misses or wounds an animal. Do you all think you are expect marksmen or something?

Furthermore, I stomped it to death because I didn't see the need for blasting off another round. I was stood over the bird with the gun unloaded and the magazine removed and this small bird was right at my feet. It was no different than stomping a bug to death.

If you are breathing hard and the cross hairs are floating all over the place,,,then you shouldnt have taken the shot and at least not posted in a public forum...i live in Alberta too and have for years...its one thing to humanely dispatch a pest or varmint...its some thing totally different to wing one then have to resort to different methods to dispatch it...and then post it on the net...

I think we can all agree that the OP is probably under 18 and most of us at that age shot anything that moved.

Bragging on an internet forum about making a terrible shot on a pest bird is not likely to impress anyone, and an adult with half a brain would know this.

Who made you the boss?

I have no problem with shooting groundhogs, crows, or in this case magpie's which seems to be a pest bird in the region that the OP lives in, but I don't think I could post on what a poor shot I took and the method I used to dispatch the animal.

Agreed. Blasting a magpie +
Telling everyone about having to stomp it not so much.
Let it be noted however that he did choose a quick death(gruesome or not) over a photo op.

Thank you. Some people here would probably enjoy a video of the events and are probably jealous that it wasn't them doing the shooting and stomping.

stomping it was the quickest method of killing it if his gun was unloaded. he could have loaded another round to make you guys happy, but that would have resulted in the bird suffering longer.

Who made you the boss?

Junior...u screwed up so admit it...next time dont take a shot like that..an very least dont post it on the web...All you did was give the anti's some more crap to go with,u made hunting or pest control look like a barbaric sport for the mindless...and least if not...u are just making your self look really bad in the light of everyone...An at the very least...dont try and ask me who I am, I at least have respect for animals...You sound like some underage fella that just got a .22 and think that you own the world, but dont have any respect for nature at all..

Like I said......Who made you boss?

You sound like a teacher lecturing a class on how bad they are.

The issue, is.. Why even post this incident in the first place.. you are obviously proud of it, and feel the need to brag about it in some way..

Having to stomp a bird to death cause you had a bad shot, would be the last thing that 99% of us would want to brag about.

yes 99% of us have had a bad shot some time in our hunting experience, we just don't feel proud about it.. nor feel the need to brag about it.

I could only image what you would have posted had you had your camera ready.. last thing we need is images of someone stomping a bird to death. A PR nightmare.

Better question...Who are you to make a poor shot then brag about it on the net?? Another question...do you treat all animals like this? Do you have some kind of hang up or phobia? Ya really gotta look at your techniques and refine them a little..
