Hi, i just looked around and found out the imperial nagant 1895 "could" take .32 S&W long cartridge. But i am just wondering if you need the 12.6 license only to OWN a 12.6 firearm (the nagant is only restricted since it is meant to shoot 7.62x38) but can you (legally) shoot/buy .32 ammunition with only a restricted license?

thanks!:D

You can shoot whatever fits I beleive, but you cannot alter the firearms to make it a ".32". Maybe somone knows more, somepeople also shoot 32 H&R mag out of em

the law only applies to the guns, not the ammo.

Hmmm, I should track down that regulation and get it printed out. I had a fellow at a local retailer who knew I had an RPAL(he sold me a handgun and he knew I shot IPSC) ask to see my license again to make sure I had 12(x) status before he'd sell me ammo for my .32 Colt Police Positive. Sure, I can get the ammo I need if I go in person, but there have been a few times I've had buddies going shopping and they offered to pick up supplies for me.

Using incorrect ammunition in a firearm does not change its status.
As CanAm stated it is the firearm that is prohibited, not the ammunition.
The twinkie who checked your PAL for 12(6) is making up his own rules.

As often happens, just because they sell the stuff, doesn't mean they know much about it.

As above, ANYONE can buy 32 cal ammo, and you don't even need a restricted PAL, never mind 12(6).

The Sako Triace Pistol comes in 3 calibres 32 being one of them and its one of the few that is not prohib if you can find one with the 3 barrel kit. You can buy the ammo without a problem

Just because the chamber of a firearms can "take" a certain cartridge does not make it prudent to fire said cartridge in that chamber/firearm.

My 11th edition of Cartridges of the World lists the nominal bullet size of the 7.62 nagant as .295" and the .32 S&W long as .312". So, right off your bullet is .017" oversized. Maybe not an issue but likely you will have a spike in pressure. Question is, is the action able to take it or are you creating a dangerous situation by doing so? Personally, I wouldn't do it.

The book actually does state that the 7.62 Nagant casings can be made from .32-20 brass, however. They list a 115 gr cast bullet load using the Lyman No. 311008 mould using 3.0 grains of Bullseye for 800 fps. They do not state specifically what this bullet is sized to for reloading however beyond stating the bullet size is .295" earlier in the text.
