So I got this FL Resizing die set used in a gunshow.

I tried resizing some new Winchester brass the other day and everything is fine when the case enters the die, gets in smootly, but when I lower the ram, it seems to stick a bit around midway out and I have to apply more pressure to get it out of the die.

I didn't get this feeling with the new 30-30 fl sizing die.

Is this normal?

I did use lube btw, and maybe too much, since at first, when I inspected the brass after resizing, it had some small dents in the shoulder, but then I checked the other half of my new, non-resized brass, and it was kind of dented already :p

For now, all I did was clean the die with a bronze brush and gun lube (should have done that at first I guess ) :p but I haven't tried it yet.

Case measurement seem good.

I think if it is binding on the way down it is either mechanical in your press, and a bit of oil would be in order, or it is tight on the neck expander.

You are feeling the expander button when it expands the neck. You did not notice on your 30-30 because the necks are very thin on a 30-30 case, and the button does not do much. The 300 Win Mag, with heavier case walls and neck, requires some extra effort to pull the expander button out of the neck after sizing. Try this to verify. Take a cotton swab [Q-Tip] and dip it in your case lube. Then wipe the inside of the neck of a case before resizing. If the effort is now considerably reduced, it is the expander button you are feeling. I use powdered graphite to lube the inside of my necks prior to sizing to reduce the effort. Regards, Eagleye.

Thanks alot, I'll try that.

Tak I did the same thing... I forgot to lube the inside of the necks on the 300 win mag and it was difficult to pull the brass out. I always remember to lube the inside of the necks now. :D
