Norinco MP5A

They sell for $2800 in the Phillipines.

Couldnt a government agency buy the real thing either a MP5 or a UMP for far less than that? I thought UMPs were like $1500 when sold to government agencies?

Access and price. No gov is paying the $2800.

The price qouted was for the civilian market.Guns are being sold over there with ridiculous prices because the govt regards guns as luxery items, hence any importation gets slap with gargantuan taxes.Their military and police are not using any firearms made in China, none that I'ved heard of as of now.

A friend of mine lives over there - basicly, civies are SUPPOSEDLY only allowed pistols and shotguns. However, there are ways to get FA and another cool stuff around legal loopholes - stuffed money in envelopes and knowing people will facilitate the exploitation of the loophole.

I have 10 Philipinos working for me right now. They have told me that an individual is only allowed to own 1 handgun, and that is for personal defence. However in the same sentence they say, Everyone owns the 1 handgun they are allowed and 2 or 3 more that the goverment doesnt know about.

Needless to say, they all own handguns and were great tag a longs when we hit the gun shows up in the states a few months ago.

Those restrictions were imposed during the Marcos dictatorship,a person was only allowed one handgun up to 38 cal. only or one shotgun or a 22cal. rifle plus 50 rds of ammo in your life time..When Democracy was restored rules changed such as:
No limit to number of firearms, as long as you have the dough.
No civilian restrictions vs full auto.
No civilian restrictions on magazine capacity.
Home storage of ammo up to 500 rds per gun.
The down side are:
Massive taxes on imported guns.
Ridiculous ammo prices.
Gun purchase waiting period of 14-15 days
Expensive gun license, one for each gun.meaning one plastic ID for each gun and same thing for the permit to carry ,one permit for each gun.

2800$ $ $ $ Holy ####z

I remember of a dealer here who sells them... when prices were advertized (Not Anymore).. they were retailed at 1900$ that's for a real deal HK MP5

The patents (if any) expired long ago and are no longer in affect. They last no longer that 25 years. As for the coca-cola name, that is a trademark, and lasts as long as it is used. Very different things.

Now if Norc called their gun the MP5, then you would have a point.

I'm more surprised given the existing number of licensed producers of the MP5.

Greece
Turkey
Iran
Pakistan
Sudan
Saudi Arabia
Mexico
UK

Then and again, I guess Norinco just offered a better deal
