I always go with 1" high rings on my scopes.

I just mounted a bushnell 3200 elite 7-21x40 on my Remington SPS 700 using 1" high weaver style mounts.

Medium should do it for a 40mm objective lens. If you want to put some extra vertical on your scope, you can use Burris Signature Zee rings. They use plastic sleeves that go inside the rings to grip the scope. The sleeves can rotate inside the rings like ball joints, eliminating any bending loads on the scope due to ring misalignment and you can get different offset inserts to allow you to tilt the scope for more vertical adjustment. Price is even reasonable at around $45-$50 for a set.

20 MOA on a rimfire? How far are you planning on shooting? And what are you shooting?

Depends on the elevation adjustment range of the scope and the desired shooting distance.

I personally have just started shooting out to 300 yds with my 10/22, which requires about 45 MOA clicks up relative to a 50 yd zero. My scope has 60 MOA adjustment. With burris zee rings (I'm also a big fan) I managed to make the 50 yd zero have 45 MOA up remaining. For 300 yds I use ca. 30 MOA clicks up plus mildots for the last 14.4 MOA.

Well thank you everybody !!, ill go with the burris medium and a .020 insert .

Have a cheap bsa right now , im doing very well at 100 yards but its a bit too foggy for me, thats why i never try it at 200 , should be a pain in the ... eye!!

So i should be ok with the elite 3200 tactical and a 20 moa ring.

1" high rings?? What are they? I have checked the weaver site and can't find 1" high rings. Perhaps you mean 1" rings. That would be the inside diameter of the ring surface. You always use 1" rings because the tubes of the scopes you buy are 1". If you had a scope with a tube dia of 3/4" then your rings wouldn't fit, the scope would be too loose or if you had a scope with a 30mm tube, then they would not even go on. The height here refers to the height of the scope off of the mount. This allows for use of the iron sights, mounting wide diameter front optics, or sometimes, bolt travel. Most times with modern rifles, you will use med mounts.
What you should have said is that I you just mounted an Bushnell 3200 elite 7-21X40mm on my Remington SPS 700 using med or high 1" weaver-style rings.

I was not able to mount a 40mm scope with AO onto my FV using weaver high rings. I had to buy extra-high. The FV has a straight heavy barrell, it may interfere with a scope with AO. Just a word of caution. I wasted $50.00 on the high rings so found out the hard way.

I have a Savage MKII TR, heavy bull barrel etc... Scope is a Bushnell 4200 8-32x40AO and I had to use Burris High Rings. Mediums would not work as the scope hit the barrel and even now with the High Rings I have very little space between the bottom of the scope and the barrel.

Go figure. I have a 3200 5-15x50AO on a 12FV with heavy barrel and high rings leave me plenty of room. Mediums wouldn't work, but no problems with the high rings.

i have the same scope on my 10/22 and had to use high rings, i used the burris signature zee with the inserts that gives me 10moa of elevation. you can get inserts that give you 20 moa.

On my 10/22 I used two sets of twenties to give me an estimated 40 MOA!

I thought I'd add another small comment about height and the burris rings. If you are adding some UP shimming with the inserts, there is a difference in whether you put the shim pair (for example the -10, +10) in the front or rear ring. Picture it in your mind's eye: shimming for UP involves tilting the front of the scope lower relative to the rifle. If you use the shim pair in the front rings, the front of the scope will be lowered (and thus be closer to the barrel). If you use the shim pair in the rear rings, the rear of the scope will be raised.

To summarize, if the scope is close to touching the barrel, and you need to use a shim for UP, it's better to apply it in the rear ring.

^^^^ wrong ^^^^

Looking for ring height will give you all sorts of answers, some medium work, some high work, some x-high, etc. etc. You need to check each make of the ring and get the measurement of each. All scope rings (medium, high, etc) are not equal so you need to check each.
As far as I recall, even the Burris Zee Rings have a different measurement than the Burris Signature Zee Rings.

The best place to determine the ring height is Midway USA.

I believe the formula goes like this....objective size (measured) - scope diameter / 2. Then subtract the base height and the receiver to barrel height difference and that will give you the min ring height required.

Used Burris 1", High, Signature ZEE Rings and 1" Sig. Pos-Align inserts to mount a Weaver V16 (4-16x42mm) scope on my Savage Mark II BTVS. Have adequate clearance under the objective with this set-up, but I don't believe you could use rings lower than what I used.
