I just received my Norinco CQ 556 today. I just can't wait to get out to the range!!!

A big Thank You goes out to Roger at Shooter's choice. Great CGN to deal with. Very smooth and fast shipment...

So my question is do I need to do any prep on it and oil it before I shoot it?

I was thinking about running a bore snake throught the barrel and a light oil patch. But not sure if I need to degrease the gas tube. I think it will be pretty smoky if I don't.

Thanks in advance.

Let me first say. Thanks for the HELPFUL info! LOL w:h:

For you reading enjoyment right out of the Operation Manual:

strip it, remove weird tampon things (behind bolt and in barrel on mine) run a patch through barrel oil bolt ,shoot the s##! out of it!!

I am in the same boat, haven't fired mine yet, need to clean it. Does anyone have any good instructions that are detailed enough to attach the effing sling? Its really confusing, there is a part that looks like it clips on to the sling loop on the stock, and a clip-able end that clips on and off easilye, maybe for the front sling attachment near the handguards? If you do that, you end up with this slack piece in the middle that has an slanted catch on it for hooking on to something, only at an angle??

Yeah its confusing. I'm not sure what the design is, but I hope that it is such that you can release the rifle at your side and go to handgun, what I think some people call a "patrol sling", but I could be wrong.

I found this post, I will try it tomorrow. It looks as right as it can be, but the "right" kinda looks wrong, if you know what I mean. Maybe someone has a recommendation for a better aftermarket AR sling?

you need to buy ammo, that the only prep you need.

You might also boresight it:

Clear gun, empty bolt and buffer, place gun on somthing that wont move look trought the smal hole in the butt of the riffle, modify your optic to lign that up.

don't forget to replace buffer spring and bolt, you might have a bad suprise at the shooting range without them.
