My niece's son, Gabe (Gabriel), bagged his first grouse Sunday afternoon (Oct 3rd). His smile tells all, pretty good bragging rights for nine year old in grade four. Shortly after this photo was taken he watched his grandma shoot a young bull moose, 30" rack, 5 x 7, a good afternoon.

Remind me again how hunting is bad?

Anything that brings families like yours (and mine!) together like this, AND provides meat for the table, is about the FINEST thing one could possibly do with his/her time.

It's bad cuz it sucks all the money out of my wallet and makes me day dream while I"m at work!!

When I was young, my family fished (sport) and thats what we did to bond (and do, my wife and I bought our first boat in May) but I didn't get into hunting until I was 21. I can't wait to teach my nephew (and children when they come) to value these past times and survival skill. Two thumbs up to you for carrying on the tradition!

Good going there Gramps! You can tell me the whole story, next time we meet.
Some of my most memorable hunting was when I was taking my two grand sons, cousins the same age, out grouse hunting. I would take them one at a time on a trip with the quad on an unused bush trail. There was such good rivalry between the two. But, I was a tough old Grampa, we used a 22 and I made them shoot the grouse in the head or neck. I had taught them first on pellet rifles, many hundreds of shots in the basement, then on 22 rifles. Accuracy came second only to safety, on all their training, so they were surprisingly good at hitting the little necks.
