So, I was not totally happy with the varnished laminated stock on my SKS, so I redid it with a medium walnut Danish oil and finished it with some Howard Feed and Wax.

Let me know what you think! I'm pretty happy with the results.:)]

Good work!

How long did this little project take you?

5 days all told. Prepping the stock was most of the work. I even stuck it in the oven for a couple of hours at ~190 to heat the cosmo out. Applying the oil is all about waiting, but the first few coats went on quickly as the stock just soaked it up. The last coat was left to dry for 48 hours before applying the Howards feed and wax.

Nice work-I did a similar job to my 1950 Tula and my 1944 laminated M44, except I used MinWax Mahogany and Walnut stain respectively. (followed by TruOil) I think that the original shellac really covers up the beauty of the woodgrain.
