Shotgun Coin finish

Does the silver nitride ( coin Finish ) on shotgun receivers hold up better than the blueing used on most receivers.
I notice that over time the blueing tends to wear thin ,particularly in the lower receiver area from carrying.
Does the coin finish suffer from the same problem?

Yes it acts the same though not nearly as quickly, over time the finish on my Krieghoffs start to dull and wear, in this case I'm not sure if it's wear or sweat from hands from shooting on hot days, that does it.

Ben, it is the sweat that dulls the finish. Some Symchromepoly helps in retoring some of the shine, but you have to catch it early!

I tried "simchromepoly" on google and it comes up as a metal polish
Probably a polymer type polish

Sorry, I forgot the trade name: Flitz. Mario from Beretta Italy, uses it and recommended it to me. I also dull the finish of my DT10L. Flitz does restore the finish.

Regular touchups with Brownell's Oxpho Blue help muchly with blued shotguns.

It takes no longer than dipping a cleaning patch in the Oxpho and touching up the wearing spots with it as soon as you notice it - takes almost longer to tell than actually do it. Very, very close match to most bluing, and more importantly, keeps the finish in good order protecting the metal underneath.

Have been putting the stuff on the hand wear areas of my Superposed and B2000 for decades, not to mention my rifles and handguns that get similar wear from handling and just plain carrying. Also handy for using on hunting knives and other tools/metal you use outdoors and prone to rust.

HazMat charge on the stuff is more than the cost of a small bottle of the product is about the only downside. Makes sense to order with a bunch of your buddies and split the charge.
