Waaay out west.
I sent a restricted VZ 58 to the guys at DLASK and had them work their magic. They re-barreled it with a new Lothar Walther barrel, re-registered it with the new barrel length, and shipped it back. I couldn't be happier with the job that Josef and his crew did on it.

Specs:
Barrel Length: 12 Inches
Length Open: 30 Inches
Length Folded: 21.5 Inches
Muzzle Brake: Dlask AKM style.

The best way to describe this rifle is "handy". It just feels right in the hand. Balance is good. I think I'm going to replace the folding stock with an M4 style.
Range report soon.:)

Forward grip, I needz one.

I don't think a vert grip is practical, due to the way the mags are inserted. The Magpul AFG is ugly, and the knights one is stupidly expensive. Any other options?

Actually, the left side rail on the Fab defense works OK if you #### your support hand thumb around it, but I'd like something more substantial...

Vz

Sweet rig! I have a Fab handguard and a Magpul AFG on my 858 and it's awesome, I think it would work even better on your shorty, mine has a long LOP due to my stock setup.

very nice, they sure do some good work over there.

would/could dlask do somthing similar to a SKS. It seams to me for the amount towards this vz, an sks done up this way would be just under the cost of vz rifle itself.
Would that make it restricted or this like them shorty shotguns?

wow... looks good... i never heard of Lothar Walther barrel, is it any different? Same caliber? Also +1 on AFG.

Yep - 7.62x39.

Oh how I wish something like that was non-restricted! What a deer gun.

You got that right. I'll have some velocity data for all tomorrow. From what I've read, the 7.62x39 is very suited to SBR projects. It's case volume relative to bullet size is fairly small and it loses less velocity compared to other SBR conversions like the AR 15 platform. With the proper bullet it would be a nearly ideal bush rifle.

I'll be testing velocity VS an non-restricted 858. I think it will surprise some people.

clob, very nice .

how long did it take them to change the barrel ? was the barrel specially ordered in and did you get the old barrel back?

i would love to have a 16" on a SKS but i probably wouldnt spend $400-450 on it .

Very nice! I really like the look. Is the Lothar Walther barrel chrome lined? and just for reference any chance you could snap a quick pic with the AKM break removed?
