Vital•Shok® TruBall® Deep Penetrator Slugs

I have looked for a review of these slugs ( I just found some when I went in to buy some "regular" slugs )

Has anyone here used them? Results? Or any online reviews of them?

Vital•Shok® TruBall® Deep Penetrator Slugs

This is much harder (higher antimony) lead than the traditional TruBall and features a more distinct shoulder for extra toughness. They are designed for an impressive 18-20 inches of penetration.

New copper-plated Deep Penetrator slugs made from harder lead

Do you have a rifled barrel? If not stick with Foster style rifled slugs.

May I ask why you suggest that? As far as I can tell ( and I could be wrong ) this IS a "Foster" style, and is for use in a smooth bore ( mine is Cylinder bore, ie no choke ).

In Federal's own words - "When Federal Premium® set out to make the smoothbore slug more effective for the standard slug slinger, the Vital-Shok™ Slug TruBall® system was created."

The "Truball" merely increases accuracy. According to Federal anyway. If you want a 12g slug that will reliably penetrate deeply ditch the foster slug and buy some Brennekes. You'll pay about the same.

According to Federal, these are harder than "normal" Foster type slugs, and coated in copper... and they clain they penetrate much better.

Also... Brennekes are hard to get sometimes.

So... no one here has used them, or seen a review?

The original Tru-balls are definitely designed for smooth bore barrels. I would assume that these newer ones are as well.

They Work awsome. the design is supposed to center the slug in your smooth bore better than your traditional foster. Its really just a stabalizer. lonng story short I got 3 inch groups +/- at fifty yards off hand with a full choke ithica 37.

I fired some quite sometimes ago and found them accurate, have not seen them or Brennekes around for quite some time.
