I'm posting this info, so that other firearm/black rifle enthusiasts like myself don't get screwed out of money. I am a very careful buyer with regards to internet purchases and this is the first time I've been screwed out of money over the net. Here is the story:
So a while back I purchased a LaRue 9.0 rail system only to find out it was fake. Photo verified by the techs at LaRue and also against a legitimate sample of the real system.
I found this deal through the Fabsports website. There was a heading in the side menu that said "Free ads", under which was listed a few products. One being the 9.0 LaRue rail. Curiously enough, this section of the website has now been removed now.
I originally placed the order through the shopping cart system of the website and was promptly informed via email that if I wanted the rail, I would have to contact the seller. An email address for the seller was provided from Fabsports. Everything seems legit so far. An ad hosted by a reputable business on their website. What could go wrong?
So I deal with the seller. I send and EMT, he ships the package and when it arrives, I discover it's a forgery.
I immediately contact the seller and Fabsports with this information. Fabrice from Fabsports assures me he knows the seller and has bought stuff from him before and agrees to "help out". I post the info I have here on CGN to warn others about the fakes, and through this, discover two more gunnutz that got screwed as well.
The email for the seller goes dead and Fabrice keeps assuring me that he is trying to contact the seller. Week after week, numerous phone calls and emails later, there is no progress. Fabsports says they will contact the RCMP. I get an email from Fabrice saying he has made contact with the RCMP and that they are going to visit the seller. So I wait and wait and wait and finally, I decide to call the RCMP myself. The last contact I had with Fabrice and Fabsports was on Aug 30th. The RCMP contact Fabsports asking for the file or case number that was supposedly started and receive nothing. This leads me to assume there was no case started!
The police then put me in touch with the closest detachment to the seller (Lameque NB) and I start a file. After getting all the facts and a few phone calls, they inform me that in order for them to get involved any further, I have to prove the seller knew he was peddling fakes. Since I can't really do that, I'm pretty much left to civil court for which I would have to initiate a lawsuit in the sellers province! More expensive then the value of the rail!
There is now a disclaimer on the Fabsports website specifically regarding third party deals through the site. They will not accept ANY responsibility for anything, despite vouching for and hosting the ad on the site.
So my question to all you is, at what point should dealers be held accountable??
If there is any Gunnut that lives around Lameque NB and is willing to try and contact the seller for me, PM me and I will give you his address. This was the RCMP's suggestion.
