Good Gun Range in Toronto or Surrounding Area

Marksmen was a good club, but when they scaled back taking new members to 2 times a year, closing the club for the months of June, July and August to regular business, so no memberships period, no business, and coming up with things like the 1 strike and your out rule based on one BOD members decision, it was time for change. It has also become very expensive to join there for a new shooter, close to $650 at first with dues/initiation/safety course/probationary shoots. Annual renewals are close to $300. If you are a current member of a club and have an ATT they have an orientation so you do not have to pay the $150 for the safety course. Now it is an indoor 24/7 range with the exception of days they rent the range out to LE and security which I believe was up to 3 days a week according to club rules.

Holy raping of the shooter batman!

That is an insane set of fees.

Well that is the initial fee when you first join as new shooter/member. When I left at the end of last year it was $250 1 time initiation, $285 for years dues (prorated as of April of the year) $150 for safety course. CSSA was mandatory and up to you to acquire. I am not sure if they have changed since I left, there are a few other members here on CGN that I know of who may be able to attest, but yes even though it was a 24/7 range, that was still quite costly for a new shooter in my opinion.

Insanely $$$$$ there is no excuse for that sort of $ at all IMO.

I say those in charge need a :kickInTheNuts:

Yeah, initiation fee does suck. I had to suck it up. Best indoor club in my neck of the woods (I need one for winters). Yearly membership not cheap but almost 1/2 price compared to Target Sports. All said and done, I wasted over $700 for one year's worth at Target only to realize their ventilation is total garbage. Having paid about $100 extra for noobs, I thought it would cover ammo. Got dinged with around $80 in ammo. But Target paved the road to easily obtain memberships at Marksmen and OSGC (another good club I want to add, but has ~$225-250 init fees too and about $225-250/year).

I thought about joining Aurora, but opted out for one reason or another.

Damn.. way out of my $ range for sure.

Thankfully there are clubs with much more realistic fees!

Welcome aboard! Things are actually looking up at the Marksmen Club! They took you in last Sunday right away to full membership status after one night of shooting! I realise you weren't a newb but I was really surprised by that and it has given me second thoughts about staying. I wasn't going to renew in January but I think I might now.

I was going to join Target Sports because it was literally 20 minutes door to door from my house.

However, after an hour of shooting there to try it out, I believe I developed the Black Lung and at the very least I had a migraine.

Those employees must all have effing high levels of lead in their blood, perhaps it's the reason they charge such insane membership dues.

Hmmm you might have a valid theory there! :D

I wish I had done that before joining, otherwise I wouldn't have joined.

Last time I shot there was I dunno, early in the summer to try out my new 44mag. It was one of the worse experience about the air. There was zero flow. Was like shooting in a closet. I left after 20 or so rds with 44mag and went to my outdoor range. Got my regular not enough ventilation gun smoke/lead head ache in under 30mins and black snot as usual.

I was going to miss shooting 7-15 yards badly but found another club (Marksmen) that accepted me right away.

+1

+1 For Silverdale.

As a noob I have found it to be a great club in terms of the RSO's/employees as well as the current members. I don't think there has been a single trip out there when I haven't been offered the opportunity to try out the guns others bring to the range that day. As someone new to the sport, to me, that is invaluable as it allows me exposure to guns I would otherwise not have or be interested in. Example.....I never thought or had any interest in SKS's...currently the one I purchased is being fitted with a scope....all as a result of having a member let me try his out.

That being said....I will be joining BUrlington as well due to it being 10 mins from home....in the winter weather I may not want to make the drive to Silverdale.

Lastly....I have seen some local to me posting on this thread Shalimar? I think and one other in the Hamilton/Burlington area. It seems you are members of Silverdale.....if interested at some point of having a range day, albeit with a noob, sounds good....send me a pm.

Cheers,

Coach

I'm new to shooting sports and was wondering what the club at target sports was like. What are the membership fees like and are the other members nice/tolerable/not insane? also do you have to have to pay the $40 range fee everytime you go if you're in the club? I was hoping to join there
