In regards to the 7.62 vs .308 is there really a substantial difference I should be aware of? This is likely the only time I will fire commercial ammo through it, next up will be catered reloads. I noticed the Federal kicked substantially more, however the groups spoke for themselves. The conclusion I drew from this was the rifle worked better around "hot" loads. Any truth to this?

The DCRA I had 3 years ago had lead melted into the forend...it was also pretty heavy.

BTW, here's the Sterling conversion kit, and a pic of a converted rifle with the Sterling ejector installed.

Your rifle is set up in DCRA configuration. The 303 mag is usedas the loading platform and was used as a single shot. The 303 extractor was also modified for 7.62. I see the forend has been bedded and the rear reinforcement tie plate changed to a screw. Most likely done after the conversion as the target shooter was trying to improve preformance. Quite a fad in the 1960's, so i'm told.

I picked up two "replacement" 7.62mm magazines for my Ishapore from Numrich....:yingyang:...while the magazines weren't marticularly expensive :) , the shipping and "processing" fees kinda hurt....:(...but they were still less expensive than the Sterling ones....;)

Those mags look best on an Ishapore 2A1. The square lines and angles will not add anything to your rifle. Hold out for the real thing.

As for the ejector, you need a longer 2BA screw, just long enough that it won't foul the bolt. You need a 7.62 extractor or to adjust your .303 one. You need a strong, new extractor spring, it needs good pressure to push the round over hard to the left.

The Sterling ejector is impossible to find.

I have a rifle that has one, but that was a fluke.
 
I love 7.62Nato milsurps!! That is a very nice rifle you have there and with Parker Hale sight to boot. Congratulations.

A dang sight easier to keep fed!...:p

Now, if only I could find a Steyr-Mannlicher in 7.62mm.....:D

I may just find myself out your way in a few weeks depending on work, I'll just have to bring it along! Im sure it/I would benefit from a more experienced shooter's input and advice.

That arrow looking marking is also on the underside of the forestock. From what has been said here it appears to be a Canadian property mark which replaced the C broad arrow in the 50's. Perhaps this rifle was converted at some point in the 50's?
 
Great thread! I'd love to get a rifle like this. Love the old PH sights..they're heavy but solid! I noticed the sniper swivel as well. Add to that the .308 caliber conversion! Altogether a great rifle!

Could be one of those unnumbered DCRA's as well but it looks like plain jane rebarreled by CA. They are virtually the same.
 
The bolt has the stamp "797" beside the arrow mark, in the other thread it was suggested to be a DCRA number. Possible?
