Received the following this morning....I think it is some low level bureaucrats misinterpretation but still a pain.

Good morning….have received notification from our Dept of State that the export license application for order #06173423.00 has been denied.

Reason given: “it is not DDTC policy to authorize .224 caliber barrels for commercial resale at this time”.

Have canceled order #06173423.00.

Thank you,

Did'nt we get this miltary round crap also last year? And the year before was'nt there a shortage of Winchester 308 brass with people saying you would'nt be able to get it soon.

Deja Vu?

Just another excuse to drive up prices and make it more unreasonable to get into shooting.

Not all .224 barrel are for a 5.56, dumbasses.

Hey I'm just the messenger...

I did speak with contacts from a couple manufacturers who have not heard anything about it. They suggest listing .22 centerfire to avoid confusion with importing parts for military rifles

how bout 22-250, I just bought a .224 barrel for a 22-250 rig :O (though it is being chambered as we speak, no issues on import)

Please remember that this is NOT a Canadian import issue. It is a USA EXPORT issue. You will probably find that some USA supplier turned down a USA military order so "Export" closed the door on export. Remember that one does not have to buy from the USA to have the best barrels in the world!

And yes, a gunsmith or manufacturer is doing "commercial resale" of any barrel he brings in whether he puts it on a gun or not!

Absolutely nothing surprises me anymore. While this issue is indeed a US Export issue, the Canadian government makes it far from easy as well, and CBSA is a source of expensive frustration

We have permits in place on the US side to import .223/224 barrels until August 3013

Wow 3013... That's some real 100 year+ forethought. You won't run out of .22 barrels.

I have attempted to buy only a few items from the USA as I seem to prefer to buy Canadian. Not sure if I ever mentioned this but I did attempt to buy a stock from a US supplier. Ordered December 12 2009. gonna be 8 weeks. Just a little late for Christmas though. I have been a very good boy so I'm hoping I might get it by Christmas 2010.

Did I ever tell that story? :D

Not calling anyone here out, sI should be more specific.

US Export laws are dumbass thinking a .224 barrel is only for their 5.56 Nato round and thus a military barrel.

This has been on the books for some time. Buckle-up, because they were also talking 308, .45 and 9mm as well.

...and yes, ham-handed. 2013

Ha, yeah I was going to say it was a little optimistic to get a permit for the next 1013 years.....

All the more reason to buy Canadian I guess...
