I'm shooting a Tikka master sporter. I currently have a harris bi pod. Here's my problem. The way the bi pod is designed, it uses tension on the bottom of it to hold it into place. The problem with this is it kept coming lose and so I'd tighten it up each time. Eventually because its a wooden stock, the screw eventually just ripped out.

My tikka has a fore end accessory rail like the TRG. My question is does anyone know of any bipods out there that would just slide onto this rail and i could lock it in this way. All i can find online is picatinny ones. If anyone is unfamiliar with what i mean by a fore end accessory rail.

I've included these 2 links. the first being the rail itself separate if you look down at ANODIZED ANSCHUTZ® or FREELAND RAIL. The second link will show you a picture of a TRG if you look at the Accessory rails for the TRG.

And before someone suggests it. I'm trying to avoid buying the picatinny add on accessory for the rail. All comments, advice and opinions are welcome. Thanks.

$30 NC star universal bipod not a harris but it does the job of supporting the rifle ive researched and it gets good reviews slides right on the rail, and it also comes with its own rail , plus 30 bux cant go wrong i will use one for my sr22 once i get it.

Regarding your initial problem, I had the same problem with some bipod screws backing out. A dab of blue loctite helps.

So to be clear, you want to avoid the pic rail bipod adaptor (like an ARMS mount or Larue mount) - you want a bipod that interfaces directly to the pic rail ? Any reason to forgo the adaptor ?

If you want a direct connection, Atlas makes em, Versapod, and so on.

MW: thanks i'll look into it for sure.
Gorky: I am looking for a bipod that will slide right onto the freeland rail. The reason why i don't want to goto the adapter is because 1. I believe the fewer the parts the less it will move around on you. Less hassle with specific screws loosening and what not. The 2nd; I'd like a bipod as low as 3". Most bipods are that size or higher. I believe adding an adapter will raise my bipod just that much more. However this isn't that big of a deal and if i do end up having to buy an adapter, its not the worse thing I could do by all means.
Ceriksson: I agree with you. You get what you buy. And I have no issues spending the extra cash for a sturdy hold.

As for another suggestion that was brought to my attention which i'm iffy on. I was told to take off the barrel and drill a hole wide enough for a nut to fit into. and then on the bottom of the stock drill a hole just wide enough for the bold. The reason i don't like this is because its still applying presser on the wood stock and i could see the stock possibly cracking in time with having to adjust the tension alot. Any thoughts and opinions about this?

The hole through the forend with a bolt is basically how most forend sling swivels are attached I believe so you shouldn't have much problem. The nut spreads the load out a bit on the wood, so the hold is better than just a screw threads biting in the wood. If the stock is weak enough for the bi-pod to crack it and cause it to warp over time...there is a problem with the stock and I would not expect that from a Tikka.

That being said, the forend rail spreads the load out even more so should be better assuming you can find the adaptor-less kit you mentioned.

Thanks for the info. I'm now having issues with the size of the rail. I looked to find out with my model and all i get is that there is a rail, but nothing specific as to size.
