Whats the best way to shed LBS from a SKS ?

I am not interested in buying a Marlin 336. I just sold one last week.

To be perfectly honest, I really like the Ruger Mini-30. Lots of guys that I hunt with, one. I really just did'nt want one because of all of the negative stuff you hear about them, so I decided to take a SKS, and to give it a makeover. I wanted to make the SKS feel similar to a Ruger, but I wanted the SKS to still remain strong and reliable, unlike the Ruger.

I don't want to start working out, or lifting weights, or doing yoga. No, I don't like doghnuts. I actually just had sugery on my back, and now I am just thinking about taking one of my favorite tough, little bush beaters, and lighten it up a bit, for this year. Next year I will take my M14, pushing the bush.
 
Thats kind of what I figured you were getting at. Modding just for the sake of modding. Change it up a bit to better suit your needs. Like I said before, the bayonet makes the biggest difference. It is quite noticable. Will you be adding optics, a bipod or anything like that? small items quickly bring the weight back and can mess with the balance of the rifle. If youre keeping the irons, try removing the bayonet first, then if you still want more pick up your favourite synthetic stock. Oh and post pics!
 
I think that I will end up taking off the bayonet, then I am going to try to remove all of the brackets that kept it on, to lighten it up even more. After that I think I will bubbafy it will some Tapco furniture. Even if it ends up being no lighter, I don't really care as long as its more balanced and easier to carry for hours on end through the thick bush. Maybe if I put a front handgrip on it, then it would be much more comfortable to carry for hours on end a 3 point sling.

I don't really like the idea of getting a CZ 858, and adding aftermarket stuff to it. After a while the pimped out CZ looks awfully like a pimped out SKS, but 3 times the price.

the red fiberglass stock is super light and its only $30.
 
Chinese SKS, 8 pounds after the spike and rod are removed. 200 bucks, its just about indestructible. It was made for 5 foot high, 100 pound Chinese men. What more is there to say?

the red fiberstock is very light but tuff , it requires some filing for a perfect fit .

sksman.com has it . make sure you order for the correct bayo.

I have a Fiberglass stock and handguard from SKS man. There is a noticable difference in weight but they have a problem when used for a bush gun. If and when they get wet or any oil on them they get slippery in the hands. Also at the range in the summer, in the heat it had a sticky feeling to it.

Simple remidy bjs7293. Contact Murdoc and get him to Arma-Coat it. I will show ya next time at the range. Just looking for some gip tape panel's now for the hand palm and the bottom hand guard area. Will post pic's back when it's done for ya ;)
