SKS investor packs, good "investement" ?

Hey guys, ive been toying around with the idea of picking up a investor pack of ten sks rifles, and a few cases of ammo.

I was wondering if anyone else has picked one of these up, and if the quality is any different on the packs. Also is there a variation in the models included (year of manufacture and so on) or are they mostly the same ?

What do you guys think of this ? Worth it ?

I've looked through a few crates of SKS's now, and they seem to be a mystery grab bag. One had 1950 - 56 Tulas and a couple Izzies in it, mostly heavy refurbs and some black bolts. One was pretty much the same, but mostly 54 and ups with less refurbishing overall. The last batch looked at were all 54-55 Tulas, mainly beautiful dark stocked non-refurbs. I think if you bought a crate you'd get at least a couple of very pretty ones and some good shooters. Wait 30 years or so and the value will go up, but I don't think the SKS is a good short term investment. It will take time for the average Joes who don't know anything about them to neglect the ones they have into a state of uselessness.
 
I went in on one with a friend. In terms of finding a gem, I don't know if it is a worth while investment. We didn't get one that wasn't unissued if I'm not mistaken. You could do better buying a piece at a time and keeping an eye on the ee. You can get some good deals.

Remeber the was only a little more than 50 million of these Russian models ever made that dosn't inculde Chinese, Yugo & many other countries.
Buy it, Shoot it & burn the barrel out then get another. This is coming from a guy who has 5 of them ;)
 
Enfields USED to be a dime a dozen too - it takes a long time for something as mass produced as this to go up in value. If you do find some nice unissued or non refurb examples, I'd treat them very nicely. There's lots of refurbed shooters to play with!
 
Awesome thanks for all the info guys, I might pick and choose them after all, rather than play the sks lottery. I would like to have one of each year in the end, however i may just buy a couple of 1911's right now instead

If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1000.00.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.

If you had purchased $1000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of wine one year ago, drank all the
wine, then turned in the bottles for the recycling REFUND, you would have had $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to Drink heavily and recycle.
 
FOR WHAT ITS WORTH;

If you are going to invest in any firearms, buy the best condition possible, buy from a reputable dealer or person....

I know that as I am selling off my personal collection it is much easier to sell a firearm that is "all original", "original condition" etc, etc, than trying to explain why this part or that is not matching, forced match, refinished, refurbished, etc, etc....

It is much easier to say to your buyer " yes sir, all matching all original, end of discussion."

Only my opinion after more than 50 yeras of colelcting

Agreed. Spending $200 on a rifle that might be worth $500 15 years from now seems like false economy. Esp. if you aren't going to shoot it. Better off taking the money and buying silver or gold bullion as a hedge against devalued fiat currency.

it had to be very cheap wine to get you 2140 bottles (under 1 L ) or 1070 bottles (over 1 L) .

2140 x $.10 = $214.00 .

1070 x $.20 = $214.00
 
Johnone out of my experience is that some people care and some don't. Majority still care about price. Even when I have " yes sir, all matching all original, end of discussion "- then "Ohh I see but I want it cheaper"

There is starting to be a small flood of Russian SKS's showing up across Canada that are all matching, all original in great cosmetic condition. They all have the magazine pinned so it does not destroy the serial number so you can even say the magazine is original if that matters to you. All for prices between $180.00 - $200.00.
